Alright gang
Desperately need volunteers and passengers for the East Kent Railway, www.eastkentrailway.com
I'm going down both saturday and sunday this weekend and possibly the same the weekend after that.
Saturday the line is open for static viewing {no trains running} and sunday we run 5 round trips to Eyethorne with the 101 DMMU or the 205 DEMU.
We need volunteers to help maintain the railway on off days, and to help with the operational side on running days, especially level crossing operators and station staff
I'm driving from Portsmouth to get there. I go up the A3, across the M25 and down the M2, to the A2. So if anybody wants a lift and doesnt live too far off that route, just let me know

There are Heritage lines, the length of England. You'll normally find one close, and I have to agree theres nothing quite like it. The day goes ever so fast as your down mucking in and socialising. I don't really know what else to say (doing German essay) but if your in doubt to join a preserved railway such as the EKR, why not. Nothing to loose, many volunteers are welcoming and friendly. It beats doing nowt at the weekend don't it?

I've been told I look like a real NR worker. Heads down, hands in pockets with shrugged shoulders!
Hands in pockets, on duty! For shame ;)

Where's the inevitable mug of tea then? ;) . Once got told off for taking more than three seconds to accept the offer of some tea - "if you were a proper railwayman, you wouldn't even have had to think about that"... :) .

Simming, if ever you wanna join the graftas gang, just let me know. ;)
Seriously though, like the guys from the GCR etc have said, joining a preservation is great fun and another thing is it teachs you knowledge which you can use when applying for a job with a mainline TOC or Network Rail

It also gives a good impression if you go to get a job later in life, and they see the words 'Volunteer - Great Central Railway/Severy Valley Railway/West Somerset Railway' etc etc on your CV.

It shows that you can work in a Safety Concious environment, and you have good people skills, and you are prepared to work for free.

God knows why we enjoy it, after all, I enjoy mopping out the toilets at the end of the day, or cleaning out the RB set on a Sunday Morning.
