Travelling to the ELR is very easy (no big Tram closures this year :)) The nearest mainline rail stations Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria. During the day trams Run every 12 minutes to bury from Piccadilly and 6 from Victoria adult. Manchester – Bury return off peak is £3.50 for adults (£5.00 before 09:30 weekdays), and £1.60 return (2.40 before 09:30) for kiddies. There are also bus services to Manchester to Bury. See GMPTE website for details

The tram station in Bury is only a five minute walk from Bury Bolton Street station; please see this map:

Tips

- If your not one for busy hustle and bustle, naturally the Saturday or Sunday will be the buisiest time so avoid these. The weekdays will be best for you.

- Photters should remember to keep on the right side of the white line at platforms or off the edging slabs when trains are approaching.

-All visitors are also asked to refrain from wearing orange ‘hi-vis’ whilst on the platforms as it can cause confusion between staff members and non staff members (and you'll get shouted at by me on platform duties:))and also when linesiding (as you should be behind the fences!!)

- Timetables for the event can be found Here
Cheers, and enjoy!

Now this is something I want to attend. Might be able to tie it in with my HST bash on 6th July, not sure yet.

Looks like it'll be pretty good, I'll see what strings I can pull with regards to getting there!

I'm assumuing this is an annual event? If so, then I'll be attending in a couple of years, when I'm driving, then I may as well, stay up there for the full 9 days. Would be rather good.

Due to needing funds I would have used to go to this event to book a rather interesting railtour, I will not be in attendance.

It is annual, the July Gala. It is usually five days, but this year is 9 days instead. ;)

Was originally going to do the first weekend and the secomd Sunday (as on a tour on the Sat) but will probably only do the last day now as the first weekend doesn't look to good, the oil-sloshing, grass cutting device that has been upsetting my hayfever all these weekend and some Sulzer crate while on the Sunday it's the peddle cart and slug 1 and 6 which have been done in a pair and on there own this year already. Second Sunday looks good though, 3 x 37's and the 40 to do and jsut a few other things to avoid 8)

These will run at the following times.

10:40, 10:55
11:30, 11:45
