Today whilst on a Birmingham-Dorridge stopper, I saw 2 EMR Class 153s at Tyseley LMD, one of which was coupled with a WMR 153 and 170. The transfer was reported in one of the other threads (I believe the EMR livery & station branding one) but it didn't go into details.

Are these units to be used on services around the West Midlands or are they just at Tyseley for safe-keeping? I'm assuming that if they're coupled to other units they must be being used by WMR in some way.

Thanks.

Discussed on the thread about the 230s - they're being used to strengthen WM services - Hereford was mentioned.

Not going to Marston Vale before the rumour mill starts.

Reports said they here to strengthen 1320 and 1620 to bhm-Worcester. Noting has happened yet.

They have definitely been out in service - as the 172 one was attached to broke down the other day, and the next day I saw a photo of one of the blue 153s in service!

Unfortunately I wanted to try and find one for myself but with the rest of the service collapsing this week, it's been hard to find any trains...

326 hasn’t worked yet. 310 was part of the 16:50 New St-Hfd yesterday. Would have ended up on Worcester Shed lastnight. If it doesn’t get used over the weekend it will be out again from Worcester on Monday.

You lot over at wuss must be spitting. Those two look in worse condition than the current fleet!

I'm not surprised, it seems that 153s and 172s have never got along with each other since introduction, with 153s usually paired with 170s instead. I suspect it's due to the completely different performance of the units, as I'm sure 172s tend to be pretty reliable.

Well from a passenger point of view it will help with capacity at least, however I have heard multiple reports that the units have not been consistently appearing on the services that were promised the capacity uplift, which I imagine is not going down too well with the regular commuters.

Capacity is most certainly the most important thing on West Midlands Railway at the moment. My normal train home has had half the number of carriages countless times since the capacity uplift.

They do indeed, and that’s saying something!

They're getting on for 10 years from their last overhaul but they're not too awful. We'd happily have 326 back, it's the fastest one on the rails! The main issue is because they were reseated, in some cases with suburban shells, some have no armrests and seat back tables unlike the ex Central units which have the medium distance fittings intact.

Are you sure about that! 310 is with 326 & a 170/5 on the Snow Hill line diagram today. The 15:50 ex New St is a single 153 attached to a 170/5 today. Should be 2 x 153 but one of them was failed due to bad flats this morning

310 ran E.C.S from Tyseley to BNS at 1427, 365 was already there, having split a Shrewsbury Service. the 170/5 then formed the 1620, joining with a 172...

Ok, i presume you are talking about today. Just made a couple of phone calls 15:50 New St - Hereford is 170508 & 153354! 16:20 New St - Gt Malvern is 172001 & 153364. No path for a 14:27 ex Tys to New St & they wouldn’t send a unit at that time to form a service at 15:50. If you are implying that 153365 has come off a Shrewsbury then i doubt it as the depots that work those services no longer have 153 knowledge. With the exception of one ecs move off Tys to new st form the 16:50 to Hereford which is a new st driver all booked 153 work is at Worcester. If they left the 170 at new st off the 15:50 as you suggest then that would have meant that the 16:20 would have been a 153,170 & 172!! My son will be catching the 20:25 malvern to hfd later which is the diagram that works the 15:50. I will check & see what is on it
