156503 went back to Scotrail on the 16th. It also had it's EMR branding removed.

We travelled to London & back yesterday and it does still feel very Stagecoach. Abellio is making so little impact on the franchise that it makes you wonder what the short-term aims and objectives are. Just to add our departure from St Pancras was delayed while we awaited a member of staff to arrive.
Nothing rolling stock wise is staying around long term, so the view seems to be don't refurbish. Indeed, with ex-GA 156s coming in as a stop-gap to replace 153s before the 170s arrive, ex-HT Class 180s as a stop-gap before the 804s and ex-LNER HSTs as a stop-gap until the ex-GA 360s arrive... well the East Midlands will be very colourful in 2020!

I do think it is a shame there is no facelift for the 222s though. When the ex-LNER HSTs arrive I think 40 year old stock is going to look a lot fresher inside than the 222s, given that VTEC did a full facelift in 2015-16, whereas EMT facelifted the 222s back in 2007-08.

EMR did say they would be rebranding the 156s and 222s, as said earlier in the thread. Looks like Abellio like they did with WMR are gonna have a temporary livery on the units.

This white body and purple doors will work better with the 222s since they are white already so less work required, all you gotta do is strip the stagecoach colours off

At no point have they ever said they're rebranding the 156s. They're due bodywork and a repaint as a standard life cycle works job. If someone subsequently points out that someone has asked on Twitter and the social media controller has tried to be helpful and guessed what is being asked then I may actually click the ignore button on them on here to save myself from any further stupidity. They would like to do some 222s but this is by no means guaranteed.

That's correct as the units can't couple up to the existing fleet of 156s. I assume that also means there is no compatibility with EMRs 153 & 158s

Are these the ex. Scotrail ones presumably? And how does a different PIS system make them completely incompatible even within the same class?

From what I can gather, the P.I.S. is part of the PRM, DDA call it what you will. With that in mind, if two incompatible P.I. systems are forced together (when the units couple) they have a technical tizwoz, computer says no and crash!
As it's part of the DDA etc, that means that any train running without a working P.I.S. from 2020 is running illegally. Which means they'd have to be reprogrammed, hit with a proverbial hammer, otherwise made to work ASAP. Far from an ideal situation to be in!

Interesting that the purple has a similar sweep effect as the LNER red has. Perhaps done deliberately to match or will we see a similar vinyl replacing the red on the HST sets?

Nice to finally see EMR adding some branding, just a pity they haven’t done anything with stations and uniforms etc.

Saw an old LNER HST go through Newcastle Central yesterday out of passenger service; looked exactly the same as when it was LNER except they had replaced the “LNER” with “EMR”.

I had my first ride in the flying aubergine a couple of days ago and it is oh so tatty inside. To think this was used for the franchise launch too. I've alway liked the Stagecoach livery, but I really am very surprised that Abellio don't want to put their own mark on the trains. As we approached Leicester i also saw the 156 in ScotRail colours and soon we'll see EMR trains in red. I don't know what the record is for the number of different liveries for one franchise, but we may be getting close to it when the new trains arrive.

It just seems that the company doesn't value its own brand.
DfT required bidders to use the EMR name and to adopt a transferable livery. Same would have applied had Stagecoach won. Not sure whose idea the nasty purple livery was, though.
