New arrivals are coming
We’re very excited to announce some big news about new trains joining our fleet. New additions to the EMR family will soon be helping to create better journeys across our network.
In October, we revealed the winning name for our new Intercity bi-mode trains joining our fleet in 2023. Our customers had the chance to suggest a name via our Social media channels and our website – to see which name won, click here. These trains will be quieter and greener than our current fleet, meaning lower carbon emissions and a better environment for passengers, stations, and our communities.
To honour those who have kept Britain moving during such a tough year we gave the first of our Class 170 Turbostars a very special name – can you guess what it might be? Click here to find out.
There’s no better place to get the latest EMR news than on social media. So, if you get as excited about new trains as we do or want to keep up with the best events and attractions on our network, give us a follow on your social network of choice below.

That purple still looks terrible, the outgoing livery is far superior.

The outgoing livery would be better if EMR cleaned their trains every now and then...

It does feel a bit like their Abellio counterparts at Greater Anglia shared quite a few tips with them.
That’s true, even the FLIRTs are becoming incredibly filthy :|

Let’s hope EMR maintain their final fleet better than their interim fleet.

To be fair, the Meridians were in a poor internal state before the change of franchisee. For instance, the reclining seats in the First often required self-assembly before sitting down, though unfortunately needing more than an Allen key...

Testing only, I assume?
Yes. If these are the paths it looks like it will stop at most stations.

Yep. Something to do with passenger/train interface checks at the curved platforms. Yours truly is the Driver. Booked to run for the next four Tuesdays.
Looking at the diagram it's back via Manton. Will that be a first?
Pics from the Manton run would be great to see!

I'm afraid I can't help out there. All electronic devices must be off in the cab. Would be a tad dark too, although if any night time photography experts fancied the challenge I would indeed love to see the results!

The 180(s) on a test run down to St. Pancras have ironically developed a fault. Developed dragging brakes and has come to a stand at/near Radlett.

To be moved at 10mph if possible.

Dragging brake on 55910. Took 10mins to fix, but 50mins to get authority for, and implement line block to enable access to relevant isolating cocks. 10mph reduction in speed going forward, terminated Cricklewood due to engineering works at St Pancras.
Apart from that all went well. 110 and 111 an absolute pair of flyers!

Very interesting... Would you say the performance (bar the problems) is on par with a 222 or a short HST?

According to Wikipedia the 180's have the same engines as a 222 so I would imagine they have very similar performance.

I'd say a the performance is better than a 222. I even had to ease right down on the power going up Sharnbrook. Maybe the transmission is more efficient than 222's? Braking seems superior and more positive too. I was using my regular 222 braking points in low brake, and still having to take it off. Handling wise overall i'll give them 10/10. Spend a bit of time and money ironing out some glitches, and there are a few annoying glitches, and you'd have a great train.
