My daughter has a 1st Advance ticket from Leeds to Norwich for next Monday, 28 July. She has just discovered that because of the East Midlands Trains industrial action, the stated route involves travelling by coach between Grantham and Norwich. She would much prefer to do the whole journey by train and this can be done by continuing onto Peterborough and changing onto Cross Country and then onto Greater Anglia at Ely.
The question is whether this is permissible within her Advance ticket. My understanding is that it is only the parts of the journey which are reservable for which the passenger is tied to that specific service. In this case there only a reservation for Leeds-Grantham (unsurprisingly since the rest of the journey is by bus). The ticket is marked 'route Peterboro & EC'.
Does this give the flexibility to continue onto Peterborough on the East Coast train and then use the services set out above?
