I'd prefer Midland Mainline and Central Trains as they are at the moment.

Thing is Ian, that would mean XC did actually own/manage some stations....and we couldn't have that!!

I'm a bit miffed we're loosing all our 170s for bloody 158s....theres however £20m worth of refurbing so that should be SWT 158 standard I hope...not too sure on the livery but we'll see what its like in the flesh 9 times out of 10 we accept them as we get so used to them. Still should get a better service from them, pleased finally Nottingham-Derby gets that 3rd train per hour back after Central took it out when splitting Crewe-Skegness good use of the Matlock shuttle and pleasing to see it's back to hourly.

We'll indeed have to see how these new operators will fair, but Im please NatEx got the push :)

Personally I think they could have been a little more inventive with their colour scheme .

It's awful, Just doesn't suit the Meridian's.

Mart

At Least i aint the only one who thinks that? Why corporate, why not something different.

So they are reaching Cambridge now i see, but the route map looks terrible. The red in the uniform suits them blends with their skin, would i wear it, well i would with Virgin.

Why no more mock ups of their fleet?

If you look at the bottom of the map, you'll notice that St Pancras isn't going to be operated by East Midlands Trains. It's currently operated by Midland Mainline, so with the rebuilding works, is it going to be transferred to Network Rail? Who's going to operate it?

Not sure about that livery at all. Will be interesting to see what it looks like on other trains (and also if they have a mix of liveries like on SWT). At least they have a black roof though, always sensible on diesels or overhead electrics (due to carbon from the exhaust or pantograph getting all over the roof).
Other than that, not a lot new, most of the stuff has been known since they got the franchise. Do wonder what this extra off peak train every hour from St Pancras will do for reliability though, with little capacity at St Pancras itself (4 platforms allowing long layovers) and on the MML south of Bedford, and also where the stock will come from (I imagine it will just come from harder use of existing stock, almost certainly shorter layovers which always hurt reliability both by giving less recovery time when running late and preventing stepping forward of stock if a set is lost). As for journey time reductions, I presume this will come from cutting out some of the rediculous slack in the Meridien diagrams, although what they will do with the HSTs which have about the right slack I don't know, although they might re-timetable then to always run none stop from Leicester.
It also mentions extra weekday capacity on Liverpool to Norwich and other regional services. Wonder where the stock will come from for that? Also, what about weekends when particularly the former can be very busy, especially over the summer.

Although London & Continental Railways owns St Pancras, they don't operate it. According to the National Rail website, it's operated by Midland Mainline. See here.

Maybe London & Continental might take it over when Eurostar starts serving St Panc.

On the old National Rail Site it said St. Pancras was operated LCR, perhaps it's just the Booking Office leased to MML for ATOC purposes or something?

How do you exactly define what managing a station is though? The National Rail site says that SWT manages Clapham Jn whilst some platforms have Southern nameboards and Southern dispatch staff. Similarly B'ham New Street is purported to be managed by Network Rail, but ticket office is run by West Coast; platform assistance by CrossCountry; dispatch (or as they call it, despatch) is run by Central (although will transfer to NR in Nov) and security, cleaning, etc. by Network Rail (though to confuse matters further is probably contracted out, and CT dispatch staff have to do litterpicks as part of the job.)

Majority operator gains "main" control. SWT operate both ticket offices as well as manning the gateline.

South Wigston, Narborough and Hinckley will join the list of not being served by the TOC that manages them when the new franchises start in Nov.

I still fail to see the why the daft rule that remains from the 1st round of privatisation where XC can't manage any stations is allowed to continue.

I don't know why the current Birmingham to Leicester service which calls at Hinkley, Narborough and South Wigston is coming off anyway, since that could be operated by either East Midlands or London Midland. Then again the Nottingham to Birmingham via Burton and Tamworth is also coming off (well, being cut back to Burton) again leaving "Intercity" cross country to cover all stations, aswell as providing lower frequency, and probably more overcrowding at times. I presume if Cross Country arn't going to manage any stations London Midland will end up with Water Orton and Wilnecote, and Nuneaton will go to Virgin West Coast.
