What would the economics be of a seasonal airport, which would still incur many of its costs during the whole year? Given that the airlines that serve it use their planes all year round and demand the lowest possible access fees, I imagine it would either remain viable year-round or close entirely (at least to commercial aviation).Southend will always find some use given how terrible the other London airports are, so I wouldn't worry about it closing. It may end up being a summer-only operation with only token services during winter, but it's hard to imagine Southend closing completely given that there are no issues with landing/departure slots there, and it still has a direct connection to London Liverpool Street.
