Does anyone know what the likely carriage composition for the EC175 (Hamburg - Berlin - Dresden - Prague - Brno - Bratislava - Budapest) is? It departs from Hamburg at 8.14 and arrives into Budapest at 22.35.

One website reckons the composition is completely 1st and 2nd class MAV (Hungarian) Intercity stock throughout. If so, I am slightly surprised by that.

To further confuse matters, a few YouTube videos from last year appear to show a mixed composition of DB IC stock working alongside MAV counterparts on the trip.

I know absolutely nothing about European stock beyond TGVs, ICEs etc but a quick search of EC175 on flickr and then recent brings up these (as well as a load of helicopters) so I hope this are at least a bit of help? (If you haven't already looked)

I've now found a more definitive answer, but thanks anyway for having a look. It appears that the EC175 currently operates with a full rake of MAV coaches (despite the fact that the vast majority of the journey is not in Hungary), although this is different from previous years.

An impressive Czech website called VagonWEB provided the composition, which interestingly shows full diagrams for many European cross-border services such as for the EC175.

trains on the route Hamburg-Berlin-Vienna/Prague/Budapest generally operate with Austrian/Czech/Hungarian stock respectively, not DB. Same is true for Berlin-Poland (PKP)

Indeed, that seems to be the case. Although looking at the website above, in 2009/10 the EC175 was actually eight DB IC coaches and one MAV restaurant car.

Some of the Berlin - Prague - Vienna trips interestingly use full rakes of Czech coaches.

Must be interesting doing a German domestic run on Czech/Hungarian/Polish coaches. I have travelled on EC6 between Dortmund and Bremen with Swiss SBB intercity coaches that were a long way from home and that was a nice trip.

Stock usage tends to alter every couple of years on these trains to equal out
mileage between the various railway companies.

CD have just cancelled an order for rakes of OBB RailJet stock for use on these services as DB have decided to work with private company RegioJet on these trains from i think December!

That's interesting. I saw RegioJet when I was in the Czech Republic and I think they are an offshoot of the Student Agency coach company.

I saw a RegioJet in Praha Hlavni Nadrazi and it looked awful, god help the passengers

Googled it and the service seems far from awful, apart from the livery which matches the buses they have. They appear to use Bombardier TALENTs and refurbished Austrian OBB coaches, with lots of rave reviews. Leather seats in 1st and an at-seat service of complimentary tea/coffee and reasonably priced food served in both classes on the longer distance services!

Those coaches have nicer interiors than DB's non-refreshed rakes (which is most of them at the moment?), if they use coaches of the same standard they should be a hit on the Hamburg - Prague services.
