thanks in advance

Decent bets are 06:30 Kings Cross - Leeds and the Newark shorts on Saturday. Could also turn up on other Leeds trains.

Sunday, 16:35 Kings Cross - Leeds and 12:22 Kings Cross - Newcastle are decent bets. Sometimes an earlier Leeds turn can drop, seemingly less common is the 17:35.

When I have been in Leeds and seen them (Saturdays), they've both been on the 19:16 KX

A note: The only 90s usable on the ECML are those fitted with DRA.
The DB Cargo examples are:
90018
90019
90020
90029
90034
90036
90039.
AIUI, there are no plans to fit any further 90s with DRA equipment for ECML services.

Travelling home from York yesterday and I saw 90019 departing on a northbound service around 14:35. Looking at RTT is may well have been working 1N16 12:22 Kings Cross to Newcastle

By DRA are you referring to the Driver's Reminder Appliance? I hadn't realised it wasn't mandatory for freight locos.

Given that it's intended to prevent 'ding ding and away' scenarios, which can only occur on bell/buzzer-fitted passenger services with the driver looking backwards at the platform while moving off, there would be no point on fitting it to freight trains.

Is there 2 on hire now?
There have always been up to two on hire, from a pool of DRA-equipped locos. While all the 90s can work push-pull, they need a DRA (Driver Reminder Alarm IIRC) to work Mk4 passenger trains. 90018, 90019, 90020, 90029, 90034, 90036 and 90039 have all worked VTEC/LNER push-pulls at various points. Locos cycle on and off when they're needed for other freight work, or when an exam is due.

I'm on the 09:16 off Leeds tomorrow morning. Always nice to get a Skoda on a work trip!

The longer the Azumas are delayed, the longer the 90s stay on the East Coast.

90036 on the 07:33 of KX just passed us at Wakey.

Meanwhile we are stuck behind the all-shacks to Doncaster :frown:

90028, spotless after being named "Sir William McAlpine" at York NRM yesterday, worked the 12:25 Newcastle - Kings Cross today.

Didn't take it long to drop onto East Coast passenger work!

Had it just now on the 16.22 Kings Cross-Leeds (between Grantham and Retford) - you could still see your reflection in the Verkehrsrot!
No less than 3 90s were out to play on LNER services, with 90029 and 90036 also being at large.
(90037, which had a brief spell in the WEDC pool (for locos hired to LNER), was on test out of Crewe on Monday - rumours are that it's next in line for several cans of red paint)

Blimey, that's a productive day for class 90s on LNER services: I thought a 90 on a Newcastle run was unusual, didn't realise that was on top of the two Leeds diagrams!

Sounds like DB are beginning to make major inroads into repainting the 90 fleet.

Indeed; of their active fleet, 90020, 90035, 90037 & 90039 are the only ones remaining in EWS; 90024 obviously still has its Malcolm livery, and 90034 is still in ex-DRS plain blue (albeit with DB logos).
The stored fleet (all at Crewe IEMD) are as follows:
  • 90017 - EWS, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 1/11/2006 due to an electrical fault.
  • 90021 - First ScotRail, stored in the WQAB pool. Stored pending heavy maintenance repairs/attention.
  • 90022 "Freightconnection" - Railfreight Grey w/ EWS logos, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 22/9/2006 due to requiring a C-exam.
  • 90023 - EWS, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 29/7/2005 due to general wear & tear.
  • 90025 - RfD Grey, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 20/1/2004 due to a "shopping decision" - whatever that means.
  • 90026 - EWS, stored in the WQAB pool. Assuming stored due to heavy maintenance repairs pending.
  • 90027 "Allerton T&RSMD" - RfD Grey, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 26/8/2007 due to requiring new wheelsets.
  • 90030 - EWS, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 3/1/2006 due to general wear & tear.
  • 90031 "The Railway Children Partnership" - EWS, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 11/12/2007 due to requiring new wheelsets.
  • 90032 - EWS, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 9/2/2004 due to requiring new wheelsets.
  • 90033 - RfD Int'l Grey/Dark Blue, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 13/4/2005 due to a "shopping decision".
  • 90038 - RfD Int'l Grey/Dark Blue, stored in the WQBA pool. Stored since 29/7/2005 due to a "shopping decision".

Thanks for that, I was aware that a few had been repainted, it's good to get an update on progress with the operational fleet.

Nice to have a summary of how the stored fleet is fairing, too.

I am hearing that 90 037 has been put back in the LNER pool and has spent the past week at Bounds Green being made ready...?
