Ok so let’s assume HS2 happens in full, with plenty of north of York upgrades as well. Lets also assume the power supply issue improves and that specific stock numbers aren’t a huge issue. By the way, this is just LNER and Kings Cross open access operators.

So what should the service pattern be?

Any thoughts are appreciated below.

Post HS2 (East to West Rail should also be completed by this time) I would expect to see at least an hourly service to Bristol/Wales down to Peterborough then via East to West Rail.

Well there’s two indicative options in the “HS2 Released Capacity Study”.

1) Regular Interval (standard hour)

2 x Leeds, one extending to Bradford
1 x Edinburgh
1 x Newcastle / Boro’ (alternate hours)
0.5 x Hull
0.5 x Sunderland via coast / Bradford Int via Wakefield K (alternate 2hrs)
1 x Lincoln

2) new destinations

1 x Bradford via Leeds
1 x Edinburgh
1 x Sunderland via coast
1 x Harrogate / Boro’ (alternate hours)
1 x Hull
1 x Lincoln
1 x Nottingham via Grantham
Occasional Bradford Int via Wakefield K

Both were based on the eastern branch happening in full.

So added to the 3 HS2 services north of York and at least 2 NPR services per hour, that results in 7 tph between York & Newcastle. Given the debate on the other thread, what upgrades will be required?

I’m assuming XC will cease at York.

Middlesbrough is commonly known as Boro' - eg by football supporters.

There must be a bit of a limit on capacity on what can be reversed there with only two platforms and the need to accommodate local services - extended ECML services
