For anyone planning to use public transport to visit the ELR Steam Gala on 19/20 October 2019, please be aware that - not for the first time - Metrolink has managed to arrange engineering work on the same weekend, and there will be no trams between Manchester Piccadilly & Bury.
Replacement buses are being provided, but these mostly follow convoluted routes to reach many of the intermediate stations, and it is usually much quicker to use the normal bus service 135 between Manchester & Bury.
Even better, if your rail route passes through either Bolton or Rochdale stations, alight there and catch a bus to Bury; each has a bus nominally every 10 minutes on Saturday daytime, but less frequently in the evening or on Sundays.
