Hi all. I'm staying in Elstree (next to the A1) and I'm travelling to Notting Hill Gate all this week. Today I drove to New Barnet then changed onto tube at Highbury & Islington then changed once more at Oxford Circus to get to Notting Hill Gate. The journey was a lot of faff as I don't really know the area all that well. Can anyone suggest a better alternative for me? The only other idea I have is to drive to High Barnet tube station (as there is a car park) and change at Tottenham Court Road to get to Notting Hill Gate. Thanks in advance.

You could drive to Stanmore tube station , which has 450 spaces, costs £4.50. Then all would be required is :

Stanmore - Bond Street (Jubilee)
Bond Street - Notting Hill Gate (Central)

How about...

Elstree to City Thameslink
(Short walk to St Pauls)
Tube to Notting Hill Gate

Just an idea. Not sure how practical it is for you.

thanks for the advice guys! Do Stanmore and High Barnet car parks accept card payments on the machine or is it just the ring 'n' go rubbish where I cant get a receipt from the machine? I think Stanmore is a little too far from where I am as I dont wanna be caught in traffic

Why not the Thameslink straight into St Pancras then circle line along? Cant be more than an hour surely and is only 1 change.

High Barnet is 6 miles from Elstree, Stanmore only 2.5miles.

Might take a bit more than an hour if taking a "direct" Circle Line train as it would mean going via Aldgate and Victoria!

Oh aye - but I meant Westbound which would obvisouly be one extra change. I apologise for omitting such a vital fact and making you think I meant take the eastbound service via Aldgate and Victoria

Let's be frank here, if it's where I think it is, you're in Borehamwood; the hotel probably says it's in Elstree to make itself sound nicer ;)

I would say there are 4 viable stations for you to go to:

-Elstree and Borehamwood (why drive? Can't you park at the hotel for free? If you can, and you're using Oyster, buses are only £1.35, or included in any Travelcard you might have)
-Stanmore (it's not that far, and once again there's a nice pink bus to take you there run by Uno - it runs every 30-60 minutes throughout the day but is a Hertfordshire service so doesn't accept Oyster)
-High Barnet (bit of a walk to the bus stop for this one, so I'll let you off from driving)
-Edgware (Once again, you can take the bus for £1.35/free with Travelcard :) )

Personally I would take the bus to Elstree and Borehamwood, take the Thameslink to Farringdon, cross-platform interchange to the Westbound Circle/H+C to Edgware Road, and change there to Notting Hill Gate (cross-platform half the time) :) however this depends on the reliability of Thameslink services which is... low? ;)

Either that or Northern line to Euston from HB/E'ware, then Victoria to Oxford Circus, then Central to NHG.

Or... Jubilee from Stanmore to...
*Wembley Park - change to Metropolitan faster service to Baker Street, then Circle/H+C, or back on the Jubilee to Bond Street and change to Central.
*Baker Street - change to Circle/H+C one stop to Edgware Road, then change to Circle/District to NHG.
*Bond Street - then take the Central as said above.

A *lot* of options I know!

My recommended is the first or last :D

Isn't Tottenham Court Road now properly open again so you can cut out the extra change? I know the Oyster Rail services map doesn't think it is, but other tube maps are up to date.

Yes, it re-opened in November.

Thanks again guys! I stuck to the following itinery:

Drive: Holiday Inn M25 J23 to High Barnet Tube station
Tube: High Barnet - Tottenham Court Road
Tube: Tottenham Court Road - Notting Hill Gate

Usual journey time 58 mins.

There's not a lot in it by driving to Stanmore as the hotel was actually in Borehamwood (not Elstree) as correctly pointed out by a previous poster =P . I was also concerned about traffic.

Fair enough :D I said change at Euston because it is cross-platform between one branch (Bank?) and the Victoria line, but then I suppose it is negated by the second change anyway :P
