Your advice please. I have an elderly stubborn Aunt in her 80s who insists on travelling to visit her sister in York from Wickford at Christmas. She plans on travelling up on LNER on 23 or 24th December but returning before new year, because KX is closed, via Sheffield and EMR. The return involves her slightly younger sister (who has angina and arthritis) going back with her to help generally but more important carry her luggage (presents). The younger sister would then return the following day by the same route! We think this is folly and have tried to persuade her to come up before or after Christmas so that she just used LNER when it is less busy and easier.
With KX closed what do people think a journey from York via Sheffield to London will be like between Christmas and New Year for these two elderly and very slow ladies? They would have reservations. They are both stubborn and would refuse any form of assistance being arranged!
Unfortunately my family will be in Exeter for Christmas/New Year and unable to help at the time she wishes to travel.

Having proper reservations will make it better. The trains will be busier if Kings Cross is closed and more passengers will be displaced onto other routes. I guess it's still hard to predict the level of demand for this year under the current circumstances.
