Hi, after doing my application a few weeks ago for a job out of Liverpool to Nottingham, I've been shortlisted and asked to complete an online video interview. Anybody any ideas the type of questions I'll be asked before I go on? Any information that would help during this process? It has to be submitted by this Thursday and I'm really under prepared them giving me 2 days notice.
Thanks any help would be much appreciated.

I guess this is the recorded interview and not the live video interview? I recently did this with LNER, so it might not be the same thing. But....

The link opens up to the company website. You're first given a chance to test your webcam and microphone. I used my laptop and sat in a well lit and quiet part of the house. You can take as long as you like between questions, but once you have opened the question your time is limited. You have 30 seconds to read and think about the question, then 5 minutes to answer. You can reject your first answer, but your second answer will automatically be saved and you don't need to use the full five minutes. There was 6 questions, like "why do you think you'd be a good train driver. Give an example of a time when you had to communicate bad news to a group of people. Give an example of a time you gave excellent customer service. Give an example of an emergency situation you were in. Tell me how you stay alert whilst doing a repetive task". There's a technique called STAR (situation, task, action, result) which you can use to structure your answers. Describe the situation you were in, the tasks you needed to carry out, the action you took to complete the tasks, and the results of your actions. I understand that there is a pool of questions for the TOC to choose from, so you'll all get different questions. The focus of the questions will probably be safety and customer service, but they'll be looking at your personality and ability to communicate too. Speak clearly, try not to impress them with big words, avoid long pauses and "err, umm and ahhh". Don't get too tied up with railway specific answers either - it would be unreasonable to expect a trainee driver to have been involved in an emergency on the railway, or to have given bad news to a group of rail passengers, so they're looking for examples from your day to day life. And, for God's sake, DON'T LIE! if you can't think of an answer say so, but don't make one up. These people are professional, and will sniff out bullsh*t from miles away.

I also seem to remember that it doesn't all have to be done at once. As long as its all done before the deadline, you can save and return to it. That might not be the case for you, though
