Might be waiting to see how many of the ones who've made it this far actually pass. 100 people could be assessed and nobody passes. That way then they've got people ready to go if needs be. It could also be due to there being over 10 vacancies (can only have about 8/10 drivers per course as far as I know) so you could be in the second batch of those to be assessed

I've not had any feedback from my initial application. Other than receiving 'thank you for your application we're still working on it' email last Tuesday. Anyone else in the same boat?

I’m in the same position. Hopefully no news is good news!

Hi, can somebody help me out please? I need a link to the GBT test tool, the one that lets us print off the test sheets. Its previously printed off 10 versions of the practise sheets so 50 sheets in total. The only GBT tool I can find now is one that doesn't allow sheets to be printed off. Many thanks in advance.

Forget that I'm sorted now.

Can anyone tell me what my Pension Contribution Rate would be if I started as a new driver now? I currently pay 10% into my RPS pension as a cop. Just wondered if the drivers pay more or less than I do.

You're paying into the railway pension scheme (RPS) already?
All TOC's have different levels of employee contribution, mine is 12% another TOC could be less.

For non-protected members (i.e. new starters or formerly protected members who decide to change companies), the default retirement age is 62 and you pay in 6.56% of your Pensionable Pay (see page 17 of the Member Guide).

Your Pensionable Pay would typically be your total pay less 1.5× the basic state pension of £134.25 a week.

Contribution rates don't vary by grade - they are the same for everyone within a given section of the Pension Scheme.

I’m on the reserve list but haven’t sat any tests. Not 100% sure if my application has even been read or if they’ve just had too many to get through, maybe they’re holding off to see how many people make it through testing first.

Knowing how the recruitment process works for trainee train drivers, I can assure you your application will have been read by a member of the recruiting staff. Each of the sections of your application will be scored on a number of aspects including but not limited to:

Relevant experience/examples,
Quality of your CV (if asked for on the form)
Conciseness (use the STAR method in your forms when it asks for situations when you've demonstrated a certain behaviour etc.)
Spelling, punctuation and grammar

And other aspects too. You really do need to sell yourself well!

One way in which current serving railway staff can become unstuck on trainee driver application forms is by assuming that the person reading their form knows about their current role. Overuse of jargon is a big no no!

The fact that you are on the reserve list is a positive. Normally, only the top 5 - 15% of applications in terms of scores make it through the sift. Good luck all!
