Nothing being able to operate through to St. Pancras this weekend, the recommended alternatives are:

Sheffield passengers travel via Doncaster or Retford and then LNER services.
Nottingham passengers travel via Newark or Grantham and then LNER services.
Derby passengers travel via Tamworth or Stoke and then LNW or VTWC services.

A residual service of 1tph from Sheffield and 1tph from Nottingham is operating to Leicester and thence a reversal to Corby, non-stop. These, combined, give Leicester the wonderfully good service of 2tph to Corby, but why? bus connections available at Corby for Bedford but the trains must be carrying an awful lot of fresh air around providing a service on a line which is not normally served at all (well hardly) No doubt some enthusiasts will be thrilled but I don't suppose ordinary pax will be making much use of it. Surely Leicester - London passengers will use the replacement bus to Bedford and re-train there.

Perhaps EMR feel the need to provide some semblance of a service (and some work for their staff) but is there really any point to it?

The buses from Leicester to Bedford are stopping services, whereas Corby - Bedford are direct & it's a shorter distance. So passengers for London will in theory be changing there. Though in reality I imagine they are travelling via Nuneaton / Grantham etc as appropriate

There's quite a significant flow from Leicester to London who will be traveling via Corby

It's surprising that some people choose to make two changes including a bus journey rather than just one change between trains.

Is it anything to do with ticket acceptance?

Maybe because it's half an hour quicker?
