Virgin are forging ahead with more developments that will see their last emergency locomotive sets phased out, as well as Wi-Fi internet technology on new trains.
The performance improvement of Virgins Pendolino fleet to 10,000mpc means that the two EWS sets that have been covering for failures can be returned to their leasing company, Porterbrook, by the end of this year.
The Mark Three carriages have only covered 1,200 miles in the last few months and train builders Alstom say they are now able to supply 45 sets of Pendolinos, enough to meet any emergencies.
Meanwhile 2006 will see wireless internet installed on all 78 trains in the Voyager fleet, following successful trials and introduction on GNERs East Coast trains. Pendolinos will also be tested to see if they are suitable for future Wi-Fi fitting.

Good news for Virgin then. Sad News for Spotters. Either way I'm not bothered. Catch the Mk3s while you can!
