Hi Experts

I have a need to travel on 28th March from Exeter to Middlesbrough, arriving in Middlesbrough around 1900. The next day (29th March) I need to go from Middlesbrough to Nottingham, departing around 1700. I then have 2 nights in Nottingham, returning to Exeter on 31st March again with a departure of around 1700.

Can you offer any advice as to the best way to ticket this and cost?

There will be no rail cards in use.

Many thanks
J

You may also be able to replace the EXD - Bristol with cheaper advances (from around £18 return)

Thank you for the replies to date .. cost isn't the over riding factor

Would a return Exeter to Middlesbrough be valid via Nottingham for a break of journey on the way back??

It's a permitted route via Nottingham.

Via Birmingham then the Cross Country service to Nottingham then up to Sheffield (or the reverse of this on the way back).

there's quite a lot of routing options here but there are a couple of different tickets and you need the right one.
To go via London and up the East Coast is ok on the way there. You can also go via Nottingham and St Pancras if you fancy.

If you're not worried about cost, the Super-Off-Peak Return lets you go via London or Birmingham. (£212)

Thanks for replies .. proposed plan for Journey is using this ticket as follows;

28/3 1139 from Exeter via London arriving Middlesbrough 1756
29/3 1726 from Middlesbrough arriving Nottingham 2027
31/3 1644 from Nottingham (via Derby) arriving Exeter 2043

Can you confirm that this is all valid and also is it possible (and how do you do it?) to get a seat reservation on the Nottingham to Exeter leg?

Many thanks

You can get seat reservations for any of the legs at any station with a ticket office , once you have the ticket.
