Toke Townley, who used to play Mr Sugden on Emmerdale Farm

Minor point - he wasn't a Sugden, he played old Sam Pearson (Annie Sugden's father).

As to the topic:

Griff Rhys Jones at Liverpool Street travel centre, getting a ticket back to Suffolk;
Geoffrey Palmer, many times on the Chiltern line;
John Craven, same;
Bill Drummond, from the KLF, used to catch my train most days in the mid/late 90s;
David Cameron, in the bay in front of me on a train to Great Missenden three weeks ago (with baby Florence and a few minders);
Ken Livingstone at Baker Street;
Michael Foot at Newport once;
Kirsty Wark on the Caley sleeper;
Alastair MacGowan at Reading;
Armando Iannucci on the Met line a couple of weeks ago

Going back a bit but:

Richard Burton & Elizabeth Taylor

Harold MacMillan

Michael Foot

Sian Phillips & Peter O'Toole

Frankie Howerd

Tommy Cooper

All on trains to Cardiff but most memorably, if this counts:

Barbara Castle, with entourage, sweeping towards the barrier, at Cardiff Central, only to be stopped in her tracks by:

'Tickets please!'

Hi It's my first post on here. The most famous people I have seen or met on trains/stations are:- Geoffrey Boycott (on a KX-LDS HST); Brendan Batson (Professional Footballer's Association) EUS-MAN Express; and Terry Yorath (Professional Footballer/ex Wales Manager) LDS-BHM train.

I've seen the cast of BBC's Silent Witness a few times around London stations (tube and mainline), and they film on the seventh floor of a building that I won't mention the location of, but that I visit very often indeed, so I have coincidentally followed them on their trains to work before!

I saw the former Home Secretary, Alan Johnson at Doncaster back in February.

That's about it for me.

Think it is just a case of luck, seems to happen when you least expect it! ;) Take back in February, I popped into London for a few hours, then heading back into Charing Cross, I spot Samantha Bond (aka Moneypenny) standing outside on her mobile, presumably waiting for a taxi.

Kind of in relation to Ms Bond (convenient surname by the way!):

The late George Melly (in red suit, at East Croydon)

I also saw him in multi-coloured attire when he got off the 125 from London and boarded a local dmu to Hereford at Newport back in the 1980s and he was a bit miffed to find there was no first class!

Tory politician Ken Clarke
Phil Wotsisface (the red-haired television doctor)
Bob Willis
Alex Higgins at Cardiff Central, desperately trying to get to Stafford (Alex never learned to drive)

Best/worst of all was Norman Tebbit with his entourage and half a dozen plain clothes police who like Melly got off the 125 at Newport back in 1985 and boarded the local dmu to Abergavenny. He was on his way to a by-election meeting in Brecon. This time there was a small first class section at the front of the train and his minders threw all the 1st class ticket holders out, claiming the seats were reserved so that he (and they) could sit there.

Not only were the seats not reserved, but reservations weren't available on that particular train. The aggrieved passengers complained to the media and it was egg on face time.

ps: the Tory vote in the by-election fell by over 20% and they lost the seat!

Also being in the right place at the right time helps.

I.e. knowing Pete waterman is opening a new station on the whichever preserved railway that is connected to the mainline, is a good bet. ;)

Z list only for me.

I saw the mouthy one from Loose Women on a service from Charing Cross. You know, the one who used to be married to Chris Evans and mentions it at every opportunity. She seemed to want people to approach her so she could bask in her "fame". Needless to say I steadfastly ignored her.

Thinking about it does she actually count as famous, especially as I cant even remember her name?

I specialise in NOT recognising clebs. One or two I have been on quite good terms with as regular passengers, and only at some later date after I have seen them (and chatted to them) many times has the penny dropped and I've said "You never told me you were on the TV!", or "I've just realised where I've seen you before!"

I obviously wasn't in London at the time, but Rihanna has been on the Underground:

Rihanna made another – how do we put this lightly – interesting fashion choice while waiting for the subway (or the “tube,” as they call it across the pond) Tuesday night in London.

The “We Found Love” singer, who was on her way to see Drake perform, was hard to miss in a flame-printed t-shirt, super-short hot pants, an oversized black leather jacket, thigh-high black leather boots and blonde hair. Still, despite being surrounded by hundreds of people, and despite the fact that she was literally on fire, Rihanna, 24, kept it cool as she stood on the Waterloo station platform.

Rihanna, of course, isn’t the only star who has been seen on the subway. Check out more stars using public transportation in our gallery below!

What do you think of Rihanna’s subway luck? Is it hot, or should she cool it on the racy fashion statements?

UK, you can keep her. We have enough talentless bimbos in America.

John Prescott @ Kings Cross right in the middle of the whole "two jags" scandal... surprised me a bit, he strolled off my train and went straight for a taxi!

Is this all just luck? I've never seen anyone.

Depends on how much time you spend on trains or at stations I guess. If you are traincrew (especially a guard) or work at a ticket office or on a platform then you will see plenty of famous people. Especially if you are ever at a London terminal. I have seen loads. I guess the most famous would be Noel & Liam Gallagher together at High Wycombe.

As long as you agree to keep Piers Morgan I think we have ourselves a deal.

That's the definition of "famous" these days isn't it? The people that shouldn't be famous whose names we want to forget - and, occasionally, succeed at forgetting! In other words, Z-list = famous...

For the record, I haven't got the faintest idea who you're on about.

Heck, even I'm probably Y-list :D

A quick wikipedia search revealed her to be Carol McGiffin.

No, me neither. I don't watch Loose Women. It's a show title I can't identify with (twice) and they've quite clearly got The View envy.

Ah yes, thanks for that. Must make a note to remember that name. Or not as the case might be. :lol:

I saw Nigel Planer from The Young Ones at the High Street Kensington underground station. I clocked him and probably looked at him a split second too long. He looked really upset that I had even looked for less than a second so I just sauntered up the platform.

Saw Alistair Darling on the Underground once. Also more recently I was on the same train as Chris Tarrant at Reading.
