I am travelling from Southall to BTM for the PM open day on 2 May. Usually I book advance tickets or use my Network Railcard to split ticket at Didcot.

Currently GWR have no advance tickets on line and splitting at Didcot means using buses from Swindon to Bath or Bristol Parkway. I'm guessing the direct services are diverted via Newbury.

Any suggestions on how I can split ticket with my Network Railcard and still avoid the replacement buses?

Thanks

Via Basingstoke and Salisbury? Taking the replacement bus would be a lot quicker though.

Yes, the direct services are diverted via (but do not stop at) Newbury.

Advance tickets are now available for bank holiday Monday 2 May. These are available at the time of writing:

£32.00: 0828 Southall - 0841 Paddington 0905 - Bristol TM 1109.
£29.50: 1028 Southall - 1041 Paddington 1105 - Bristol TM 1316.

If you prefer to avoid travel via Paddington, changing at Reading is a little less expensive:

£30.50: 0826 Southall - 0917 Reading 0943 - Bristol TM 1109.
£28.00: 1026 Southall - 1117 Reading 1143 - Bristol TM 1316.

For both the 1109 and 1316 arrivals at Bristol TM, Reading is the last stop in the Network Railcard area. Whether it saves money to use a £8.20 Railcard Off-Peak Day Single Southall - Reading or a £8.25 Railcard Off-Peak Day Return Southall - Reading together with an Advance ticket Reading - Bristol may depend on the arrangements for the return leg of your journey. At the time of writing, Advance Reading - Bristol tickets are available for the 1109 and 1316 arrivals at £24.50 and £22.50 respectively.

If you have not yet bought any tickets, the £54.50 Super Off-Peak Return Southall - Bristol TM route Not Via London may suit you. This is valid:
  • Outward by any train on bank holiday Monday 2 May, and
  • Return within one month by any train on Saturdays, Sundays or bank holidays, and by any train Mondays to Fridays except those timed to depart Bristol TM 0511-0944.
