Fares have just increased - anyone know why?

Does anyone know why fares have just increased?

A few days ago it was £13.90 to travel from Stockport to Stafford with a railcard, now it is £14.25

Same with other fares. They have just increased for seemingly no reason

Anyone know what is going on?

Is the traditional January fare increase going ahead as usual? A quick search on Google doesn’t reveal any recent news articles about this, save for this one from the Daily Mail...
