What route does this fare take?

I found it on BR fares but the only LM/XC route I could think of would be going Euston to New Street by LM and then XC to Sheffield from there?

Another possibility is Tamworth using the Trent Valley services with possibly a further change at Derby.

Why is it so much cheaper? I'm assuming it takes a lot longer?

Pretty much, although I think it's about 45 minutes overall not including a change. Up to you to decide if that's worth your time

I remember there being a thread on it (although I can't find it ) and the TV route was suggested although there would also be no reason why travel via Birmingham wouldn't be allowed.

I don't see why travel via Birmingham wouldn't be allowed, but it is likely to take much longer, as the Trent Valley's are the fast 110 ones.

I thought the intention was a single change at Tamworth when these tickets were introduced by LM and XC.
