This afternoon, between Nuneaton and Amington Junction, all trains seem to be taking the slow lines in both directions.

Would it be normal for engineering work to tasks place in the middle two tracks with the outer two live?
Or are the fast lines out of use for some other reason?

No, it wouldn't be normal, there isn't the capacity during the daytime for the trains which use the line, there are stopping trains and freight trains normally on the slow lines.

High track temperatures on the fast line resulting in a speed restriction.
