Folkestone-Dover is mine. :) 10 minutes straight of views across the channel and of the white cliffs to the other side.

I can't really disagree with any of the suggestions on here so far, but may I put in a good word for a line that never seems to come out top in any one's list, but is often a fondly thought of runner up?
North Yorkshire's Esk Valley Line.
Even just looking at its website in a pleasure in itself.

My favourite lines have to be Settle & Carlisle, Glasgow to Carlisle via Dumfries & Beattock, West Highland Line, Highland Mainline, East Coast Mainline north of Newcastle, Bristol to Penzance, Salisbury to Exeter.

Oops, forgot the Hope Valley, but the route via Marple is quite scenic.

The best in England (in no real order)

1) Settle and Carlisle
2) Cumbrian Coast
3) Esk Valley Line
4) Tyne Valley Line
5) North York Moors Railway
6) ECML north of Newcastle
7) Dover - Folkstone
8) Dawlish ( best in the winter with waves breaking over the train!)
9) PLymouth - Gunnislake
10) St Erth - St Ives

that should do for now!

A good selection of lines there; however, number 8 would not be good if you're on a Voyager!!

Clarbeston Road - Fishguard Harbour,

I can't really explain why but I think its the secludedness of the line and you also see some remnants of old stations, for example the platform (or remains of) at what was Wolf's Castle Halt by the A40 and also the dilapidated state of Fishguard and Goodwick Station - although this is soon to change as the station is set to reopen in March next year I believe :).

How about Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog, all Welsh Valley lines & Vale of Glamorgan.

Aren't we just listing random scenic lines now, instead of our personal favourites?

Difficult to choose as I like so many, but one particular favourite of mine is Edinburgh to Aberdeen - as long as one is sitting on the east side of the carriage either way. :)

between Trowbridge & Bath, through the Avon valley, and some nice Bath stone bridges, viaducts and stations.

Just not the Trowbridge bit! :D

A non-scenic one then, just to add a bit of industrial grey! I rather like from Woolston through Southampton Central and out the other side to Redbridge Junction. The industrial waterfront and Itchen Bridge, SWT depot at Northam and then the tight curve and So'ton Tunnel, then the railfreight terminals and the docks the other side of Central, all good stuff!

Personally I quite like the MML where it is fields as far as the eye can see (south of Leicester I think?)

My vote goes to the massively diverse (and not just for its short route) Severn Beach Line. Its case has been illustrated previously so I shan't repeat it here.

I quite like Edinburgh - Lancaster on the West Coast, the Dundee - Aberdeen stretch, as well as the whole of the Highland mainline

each one i chose has different "things" going for it - i cant pick just one!

It wasn't you I was really talking too, it was the people posting random lines time after time with no reason. ;)

I'll add to mine, on rural scenery levels:
Hitchin-Peterborough
Corby-Manton Jn (especially the stunning Harringworth Viaduct)
Helensburgh-Mallaig

Where I'm fortunate enough to live takes a bit of beating...
Freshford~Avoncliff~Bradford-on-Avon :D

Aside from that would have to be West Highland, Loch Eil ~ Mallaig

I'm kinda partial to the Uckfield line, its not spectacular but it's very pleasant scenery.
Also, completely different, I love the DLR! So varied, dramatic and busy :)

I really like the ECML between Edinburgh and Newcastle, with the Hope Valley line also being one of my favourites.

A few more scenic lines are on my 'to do' list for this year.

It was very interesting along the bit between Woolston & Bitterne, giving a view of the old ships along the waterfront and the old Supermarine factory, although it's been tidied up a bit now. Nice view of the Itchen Bridge, too, and a glimpse of ships in the background.

Lostwithiel to Fowey. Follows the river Fowey estuary all the way.
But as there are no special tours at the moment, it has to be :
Exeter to Teignmouth - very spectacular, especially during a storm. The waves/ spray landing on the carriage roof! (Pre Virgin trains!!)
