Hello,

Can anyone supply me with times/diagrams for when 180s, 150s and 165s turn up at Worcester Shrub Hill/Foregate Street? Thanks in advance.

165s (and indeed, their sisters 166s) are less common than they used to be at Worcester, although doubtlessly at weekends they will produce on some services.

150s, well that's less easy to predict, as tomorrow you could get a 158 on the 1903 from Worcester to Bristol, Tuesday you could get a 150, Wednesday it could be a pair of 153s and so on. I've even seen it as a 150 and 153.

180s, weekdays the one I always remember is the 1715 Didcot Parkway to Great Malvern. The rest, I fail to remember right now.

Be warned, 180s are starting to be diagrammed on weekend services now, but how many are out will depend on crew availability/maintenance

150's are basically on the services heading down Westbury way amongst 158's and 153's, but as Techniquest says, they could be any of the three.

Any idea what these diagrams are? :D

Adam :)

No idea. They will be put on Cotswold services on a ad hoc basis at the weekends due to crewe availability, so no set diagrams so to speak just yet, but I am sure someone will come and post some that have been worked

150's are dead easy to find - they are on virtually every service between Great Malvern/Worcester and Westbury/Trowbridge/etc with the exception of the Brighton trains.

Sadly. I long for the day when they are rare.

166s are far more commonly seen than 165s due to the length of the journeys and the issue of toilets - lose one on a 165 and that's it - but 166s have two toilets and are supposed to be diagrammed on everything west of Oxford that is Turbo-operated, with the exception of the Mon-Fri 05.45 Moreton-in-Marsh-Worcester and 06.52 Worcester to Oxford, which is a two-car 165 to serve the short platforms at three of the Oxfordshire halts. However, three-car 165s do appear if a 166 isn't available.

At weekends, unless a 180 does turn up - and I've yet to see one so far - any service that does not have the H symbol for an HST at the top of the column on FGW timetable 19 will be a Turbo.

You long for the day when 150s are rare? I dread the day that happens, I still miss the days when they were as common as muck on the Snow Hill lines. And it's been nearly 2 years since that was the case, it just isn't the same having a 168 or a 172 up the bank to Snow Hill. It definitely isn't the same having a 172 up Old Hill bank either :(

What happens when a 3 car turns up at stations with short platforms only able to accomodate 2?

If you're referring to Turbos then if a 3-car unit turns up on a service which is calling at a platform which can only hold 2 then the stop will be cut. This used to happen every now and then with a Worcester-London Paddington service which called at Shipton, which can only accommodate a 2-car 165. It was booked for a 180 but sometimes a 3-car 16x would replace it and the Shipton call would be cut with a later HST picking up the call. I haven't seen it happen for a while now though. If it's a 15x unit which calls at a short platform then the guard can open a single door for passenger use.

The train will stop so 2 carriages will be on the platform, this will be announced both at other stations and onboard, then only the doors on the platform will be released. This happens in lots of places, especially in FGW territory at places like Saltash and Pembroke Dock.

That's only for HSTs and 180s which have SDO fitted. 143s, 150s, 153s, 158s, 165s and 166s don't.

Indeed - it's either local door or all doors, with the former being used at really short platforms such at St James Park (Exmouth direction)

With the 165s and 166s you don't even have the option of local door. The only thing that can be done is to lock out a whole set if there is a pair of units.

Ah yes, I should have clarified that I was only referring to the Devon stuff. Still never been on a Turbo myself...
