I'm currently building an 00 gauge layout of Howling, based on the novel, Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons (refer to 'Do you have any model railway projects on the go?'). This got me thinking; what other fictional locations are being or have been modelled for example Causton in Midsomer Murders, Aidensfield in Heartbeat, Walmington on Sea in Dad's Army or St Mary Mead in the Miss Marple novels?
Answers on a postcard please!

There was one I saw in Railway Modeller a year or two ago called Fenchurch St Peter (or possibly St Paul) after a location in Dorothy L Sayers’ The Nine Tailors.

I’ve always really fancied making a model of Titfield (as in the Titfield Thunderbolt), I reckon you could have great fun doing it and the track layout at Monkton Combe is quite nice and simple.

Edit - looks like someone’s already done it!

Thanks, that's precisely the sort of thing I had in mind. I hope there are more out there!

Not quite a model railway layout, but as kids my brother and I used our AFX slot-racing set to replicate the 1971 movie "Duel" complete with evil tanker truck and David Mann's unfortunate Plymouth sedan. The staircase served as the cliff at the climax of the film (sorry for the spoilers ;) ).

What an excellent film that is.

+1 Duel is a great film. What a great one to re-enact!

A shame it was before the days of camera phones, as we have no record of our amateur remake. I have a feeling that the truck (which we fashioned by turning a flatbed trailer into a tanker using a toilet-roll tube) may still be in a box in my mum's loft though!

Also, AFX > Scalextric.

Didn't the Rev W Awfry famously create the Island of Sodor in his study?

Also a few fictional locations were (loosely recreated) in an episode of the first series of Channel 5's Great Model Railway Challenge.

Whether he did the whole island I don't know, but the Talyllyn Railway has recreated his study using all original items and one of them is Awdry's model of Ffarqhuar station. I think he may have had a large layout at some point though and he definitely did make models for all of the engines which appeared in the Railway Series.

"Ealing Road" by the Missenden Modellers was on the first series of "The Great Model Railway Challenge" in 2018. It contained a number of cameos of various Ealing films including 'The Ladykillers', 'Passport to Pimlico', 'The Maggie' and 'Whiskey Galore'. It was on display at the January 2019 Chiltern Model Railway Exhibition at Stevenage, but I don't seem to have any photos of it, alas!

I wasn't a big fan of the Missenden Modellers. Fantastic layout but they had an arrogant attitude and didn't care about cheating...

I model Goathland Station, and a village with Scripps garage and Aidensfield pub and the church for a heartbeat, I also have items that allow me to do a Harry Potter skit now and again, I have got a whole host of other small skits like a only Fools and Horses Batman and Robin, I could probably bore for Britain on this thread :D

I really like the fact you have all those little fun things. My favourite model railways are the ones that have quirky little things like those.

I’ve got a cameo of a weeing man...
I’ve also got a cameo of some unspeakable goings on in the BP garage office but this is a family friendly forum and that definitely isn’t. ;)

not the standard of modern figures but Airfix etc have been my mainstay
Iwill probably do a how to make these figures, mostly paint if anyone is interested.
Again thank you for the kind comments. I also do loads of non tv characters include rockers and mods. not certain how they fly under this thread heading although there is a model car which might allow me to cheat them in lol.

Listening to yesterday evening’s episode of The Archers on Radio 4, (Tuesday 9th Feb), there is a scene where Tony Archer is showing off his model railway layout of the local station; Hollerton Junction. It transpires that he set it in 1960 and has scratch built it in great detail.
The scene enthuses about what a satisfying and absorbing hobby model railways are and mentions that the hobby has seen a real boom during the lockdown period.
It’s wonderful that the script writers have chosen to add this into the storyline. It also responds to my thread on fictional layouts although in this case it is a fictional layout of a fictional station!

I just looked up Cold Comfort Farm to see what you modelling might entail and immediately saw Starkadder! SO NOW I FINALLY GET THE CONNECTION DOH!
But I see a cow/bull in many of the stills so
these cheap models are appalling painted, but are actually good models and cheap
