Why are Nexus/DB Regio extremely strict when it comes to filming?

Its been a long standing rule about taking photos or filming on Metro, probably due to safety issues you are allowed to film if pre approved and escorted by a member of nexus. There are certain people around who like to break these rules constantly and try to cause a lot of trouble for drivers and passengers. No names to be mentioned though but anyone reading this will probably know who am talking about anyway.

The Metro By-laws and Conditions of Carriage state that photography is not allowed, and a member of staff can ask you to stop taking pictures or ask you to leave a station if they so wish. After all it is private property. One particular person has caused numerous problems in the past, which hasn't helped the situation. However, you can still write in and ask for permission.

Are there decent lineside locations around the Metro?

Yes, there are loads, as most of the system is above ground. The sections between St James and Manors, and Jesmond and Gateshead Stadium are below ground so permission would be needed here.

Who was that, I may have an idea.

Unfortunately some management jobs & uniforms can attract control freaks who think they know what is best for everyone. Using "safety" or "security" as an excuse to stop people undertaking harmless activities seems to be fairly common.

I often wonder if such control freak types have something to hide, or are afraid of people recording something that might reflect on their own management performance / ability.

How long has this been a problem ?. Visting the area 2 -3 years ago, I took photos on several Metro stations (unaware of any rules) and nobody tried to stop me - although I was rarely at any single station for more than 5 to 10 minutes.

My honest opinion is that the Nexus people really should have better things to do than generate the amount of admin that this rule does, but there we go.

This thread that I started back in Feb may be of some help/interest:

Exactly!

Of course take pictures from a public road and you'll have no problems. I understand Paris Metro drivers have been known to call the transport police on spotters.

Ask to see the risk assessment paperwork!

I was half tempted to ask for that in a garden centre, where a girl was adjusting a display and had blocked a path with a metal garden bench - badly. As in, people could just walk around it, not even realising it was meant as a barrier.

She then moaned that the area was closed off due to health and safety.

Now, sure, she didn't want anyone in her way - but the bench was causing more of a danger to people and it was hardly a H&S issue!

What's the point in obeying such stupid rules? Of course not using the flash is common sense, but otherwise what is the problem?

You must be a terrorist if you're taking photos, no?

I mean, no terrorist would try and take a photo covertly if there was somehow some value in taking a photo (and I'm not sure there's much benefit). No, of course not.

These people who think they're counter terrorism experts probably wouldn't have a clue if there were really any suspect characters around the place until it's too late.

Did that video a month and a bit ago with me camcorder. Plenty of footage of the refurbished metros and wasn't challenged once. Had one of my m8's with me to keep watch on the passengers and staff incase any of them tried to cause trouble.

Don't bother asking just ignore the poxy rule and use an iPhone or iPod or even just use a camcorder. The camera on the iphone/ipod touch is small enough to hide and it still produces good quality footage.
