Two 18s together may not be separate services, certain services have relief service/2 buses operating one turn. Normally end of college day and just after 5 in evening, assumingly the same in thr morning?

No, all my sightings are between 11.30 and 14.00:)

As a matter of fact, I've never seen two 18s together or near enough in the evening peak in the Hayle or Penzance areas: indeed, the only time I've seen a crowded 18 on that section in the peak was when a Dart Marshall slipped onto a working just before Christmas. There's a 918 college working that is invariably at or near empty long before Pz, but any relief workings must be on the Truro to Camborne section I would think.

I had a very lucky and nice day trip to St Ives yesterday. Not sure what thread to put it on though.

Firstly had the lovely 69457 on 376 into Bristol, then caught the HST to Exeter. Changed at Exeter and I'm going to annoy people on here for this - I had a DMU of some sort (57*** range?), which was horrible all the way to St Erth. Changed onto 57256(?) to St Ives. Had a nice day there. Saw a Scania going out of the bus station (a very noisy one at that) as I was heading back. Luckily had a HST on the way back from St Erth to Taunton and then caught the commuter train into Bristol with 57248(?) through Bildgwater etc. Had 35160 on the way back.

Had a nice day, some good weather and managed to get away with not having my railcard for the whole trip, so cheated the system a bit :)

Also saw one of the 438** dart range in St Austell.

The train from Exeter and back from Taunton would of been a class 150. The 57*** would of been one of coaches, the other being 52*** making a 2 car unit. The last 3 digits would represent what 150*** it would of been.
150256 I believe is with Arriva Trains Wales so could quite possibly be 150266?

The dreaded 1018 Exeter-Penzance 150. The Paddington-Paignton HST connects into this at Exeter.I have to use this "cattle truck" when going to Cornwall on a Monday-Friday when using a One Day Devon Explorer from Axminster and day return from Plymouth. With a railcard is £13.20 to anywhere in Cornwall, excellent value compared with the normal fare. Saturdays though the HST goes to Penzance rather than Paignton.
One day the first Paddington-Penzance HST was caped at Reading, everyone was put on the Paignton HST. From Exeter to Truro where I got off, The 150 was just like a tube train in the rush hour, about 40 people standing in each of the 2 coaches. The passenger who had first class tickets were less than impressed !!

Bit of a change of plan - thought you were going to head all the way by bus? Or is that a future plan?

St Ives is possibly the most scenic bus station in the country (though Penzance is also lovely with SMM in the background).

No that's just a day trip. Keep up.

I'm still planning my adventure. I think I might take the train down to Penzance, then bus back over a few days.

I have lots to remember.... I can't recall so much - wait til you hit your 40's!! :?

You should be able to come up with some quality route to come back and the thing is with Cornwall, there's very little there that isn't of interest in terms of scenery. My favourite county by far - I envy Busaholic <(

I am a lucky man to live in such a beautiful county - if I was to climb on to my roof I could even see St Michael's Mount from it (given the state of both me and my roof, an inadvisable option:)). Mind you, I sold my house in London for £140,000 in 1988 and bought a shop/flat in Penzance for £160,000. Now the London house would go for £1.1 million, and my humble abode in Pz might fetch double what I paid for it. Luckily, I have never been terribly motivated by money! In any case, living/working in London all that time would probably have led me to an early grave.

Alex Carter (MD FSW) is doing a talk in Plymouth on 19 April, which I unfortunately can't attend:

https://ciltuk.org.uk/Events/EventDetails.aspx?dateid=2270

Although it landed in my inbox because I'm a "CMILT" you don't have to be a member to attend. If anyone on here does go, maybe you could post a summary of what should be an interesting and entertaining evening.

I really would go, but I know that i'll just get annoyed and any questions i ask i'm sure will just be ignored.

I think that's a little harsh. FSW Official does come on here and provide information. Understandably, there will be things of a confidential or commercial nature that can't be discussed. Similarly, there will be some things that they can allude to (e.g. new identity for First Kernow etc) that haven't been finalised.

I won't be able to make it (and as a CMILT, I confess I'd not spotted it) and echo Goldfish's comments; if anyone does go, a summary of the main points would be interesting

Yes your right. It was a bit harsh.

First are generally getting better at listening to feedback and i'm sure the event would be good to go to. It's a nice idea from First and good of Mr Carter to give up his time for that.

I appreciate FSW and South Westerleys info more than you may think and it's very good to have them on the forum.

I'm sure we're on the same page - we probably all appreciate their efforts to keep us informed, as much as they can. To be honest, the industry is very good as a whole in such things; a lot of managers are enthusiasts themselves (can't speak for AC or MMH - don't know them) but they have to balance that with the commercial realities etc.

I know the institute appreciates the time that all people and organisations dedicate in terms of presentations and site visits too

I wonder approximately how many buses have Kernow local livery as against First corporate liveries? A few might still have Western Greyhound livery.

I think they've all lost their Western Greyhound livery. I think there's about a handful of single decks in Barbie, compared to deckers which I understand is mostly in Barbie rather than Urban.

I'm sure one of the Kernow locals can confirm.

There are still quite a few buses in Barbie. They are mainly Dart's, Solo's and Trident's and the remaining Olympian's. The seasonal Volvo Citybuses are still in Barbie.
One Solo (53406) retains Western Greyhound green. There is Fal River blue and cream as applied to two Trident's and a number of variations carried by the coaches. There are a couple of "one offs" such as the "Eden" Volvo B7RLE and the recently reliveried Dart with the advert for a radio station as well as the green E400. The Solo 53709 is unique in a silver type colour scheme.

There is also the Buses of Somerset type green carried by the remaining 535xx Solo's based at Penzance and the "interim" livery carried by Solo's 53402 - 53404.

Urban or Olympia is carried by all the Volvo B7RLE's (apart from the Eden one), all the Scania's, a number of Dart's and Solo's, a few Trident's,the Volvo B7TL's (except 32097), a couple of coaches and all but one of the E400's.

I have probably missed something but that gives you an idea.

Good summary. The only ones that spring to mind are the heritage 32716 and the ex Plymouth P&R Tridents and e400s that have the pink nose!

Thank you for your updates. It seems there is still plenty of Barbie but not much green Kernow yet really. We shall see what happens when the Barbie buses are withdrawn or repainted.

33660 is the experimental BusKernow livery. I understand that it is a trial and that the final example will be different.

I have to confess that I like the Urban livery with the St Pirans cross and the 1929 strapline!

We shall see what replaces the large number of non DDA deckers during 2016.

I like the urban with the St Piran's cross and black band, the green carried by 33660 is not to my liking.

Replacements for all are imminent but we are going to retain the two L reg Cummins engined examples as well for now.

Can we ask what will be the replacements or is that tempting fate?

It may well tempt fate!
The slim solo from BoS
The two remaining Caetano Darts from BoS
One Trident from BoS
The one South Yorkshire Trident awaiting an engine en route in Taunton
Three Midlands Solos which are going first to BoS...

...then we start our non DDA Trident and Open Top cascades!!!
