Very likely, there's just not enough operators who want the work, especially when a good bulk of them are double decker contracts. The above are all operated by Bannockburn though.

If they didn't dump everything in one go they probably would have got rid of more in time, just need to see what happens when the usual retender periods come up.

Not everything gets registered as services nowadays though, so it's hard to keep track.

It's not, it's some brand that really only gets used for Ulsterbus stock for the most part. Why Wrightbus haven't swapped the set for something else is anyone's guess.

When the X37 increased in frequency the additional bus is usually quiet, wouldn't be surprised if that was being cut for this X35.
Looks like your right, but if the X35 is going via low road its not going to be any faster..

That either means X36 is going via Moodiesburn with the X37 getting the direct bus or there will be extra run? Either way it will still go to Cumbernauld on a Saturday morning.

As was posted back in message 479 the 507 and the 513 were never cancelled by First, so were always being kept along with the 310 and 313 which aren't Stirling Council contracts and the schools elements of the B12 and B10.

Carrs need to get their skates on if they are picking up the extra work on time, from viewing the yard from the main road yesterday there didn't appear to be any additional vehicles on site. they onlyhave 4 full size coaches at the moment so are definately short.

That is strange since everything else was, and when First required them then put in new regs.

The turn around time from tendering through to start on contract is very short.

The majority of the runs require 70+ seats, a size Carrs currently don't have our hunch is at least 1 70 seat coach to complement the private hire fleet.

On a side note, will Balfron survive much longer on the reduced workload?

Given the relative proximity between the depots one possibility would be to split the work between First Glasgow at Dumbarton and Midland Bluebird at Bannockburn , not entirely sure what Balfron operate though.

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/local-news/council-discrimination-row-over-new-14419200
Stirling Council has become involved in a discrimination row after school transport for a number of pupils was axed.

Angry parents hit out after discovering their children will be left with no transport to get to school from next week after the contract to offer the service was taken over.

Parents of pupils attending St Modan’s High say those who previously paid for school transport have now been told there will be no available spaces on school buses.

First Bus have had the contract to operate the service but from next Tuesday it will be taken over by Hunter’s Executive Coaches, based in Alloa, with no option for pupils to pay for a spot on the bus.

St Modan’s High is a Roman Catholic school. However, parents of children of other religions or none can make a request to send their children to the school on the understanding that they will not be offered free school transport as it falls outwith their catchment area.

Parents of pupils not entitled to free transport previously paid for the First Bus services to take children to the school, but it’s understood under the new contract with Hunter’s Executive Coaches there will be no option for children who previously paid for a spot on the bus to do so.

The change over will affect non-entitled pupils in Bannockburn, Cambusbarron, Cowie and Raploch.

Council officials wrote to parents of those children entitled to free travel earlier this month, detailing the changes. However, parents of pupils who are not entitled to free transport say they have been left in the dark.

Stirling Council said it recognises the change is going to “cause difficulty” for some children and families at St Modan’s High who accessed the service as fare-paying passengers.

A council spokesperson said that it was a “prioritising this issue” and insisted they were working with the operator to minimise disruption to affected children and families.

He added: “After First Bus gave their intention to terminate some of their home-to-school transport contracts across Stirling, we quickly moved to secure a new operator to ensure continuity of this free service for children. The tender was based on the capacity required for pupils entitled to free transport.

“This was the case with the existing contract with First Bus but extra capacity on the buses allowed pupils who chose to pay for travel to use this service.”

“We will continue to liaise with parents and carers through the school’s communication channels on this matter.”

However, First Bus said it unsuccessfully bid for contracts during the tendering process.

Commercial director for First Midland Bluebird Graeme Macfarlan said: “We have retained some contracts and lost out on others via this process, for which we re-applied for all work serving St Modan’s High School.

“Bids are made based on the commercial viability of these services and on this basis, we were unsuccessful on this occasion for certain services.”

The Observer was this week inundated with phone calls from upset parents over the shake-up.

Angry mum, Amanda Hamilton, from Whins of Milton, has a son in S3. She said: “It’s discriminatory against non-Catholics.

“We paid First Bus each term. We have passes that are paid up until June but now we’re just finding out that he won’t even be getting a space on the new bus.”

Another mum, who has two children at the school, who did not wish to be named, added: “We put our kids into St Modan’s because it’s a good school.

“We were quite willing to pay per year for transport, but this is moving the goalposts. I’m livid with the scenario.”

A third parent said she has a son in S5 at the school who suffers from an inflammatory condition as well as learning difficulties who will now struggle to get to school each day.

A fourth told how their autistic son, from Bannockburn, was placed at the school for its specialist autism provision and he will be unable to make his own way to the school each day on public transport.
If these contracts are excluding fare-paying passengers, it might be a similar situation with the new Balfron contracts as well, so 70+ seaters aren't actually required?

According to Carrs they have acquired seven vehicles including double deckers for the work. No need for people to panic, they have the capacity and won't run into issues unlike the St Modans runs.
Tuesday is the day Carrs coach hire begin their next venture. All seven new single and double decker coaches have now arrived and will begin the new contract with Stirling council.. we all at Carrs are very excited about this venture.

All will be fine until they have a breakdown & all the kids are either stuck at the side of the road until another bus arrives unless they pay the fare to use the First bus service as their passes will not be valid

Except that all contractors have to have contingency plans in place in case of things like breakdowns and in any case the school and council would be notified, they would not be stranded and made to use a service bus.

DRZ 9713 is being used on service 5 so presumably the destination issues have been resolved.

Would have thought they wouldn't have needed to use it though considering how much school work has been freed up this week allowing double deckers to be used throughout the day.

Unless stuff has already been moved away? Seen a Scania double decker on Larbert routes recently.

On the subject of school contracts it does seem Horsburgh have picked up most of First's withdrawals in the Falkirk area, who knows how long that will last.
