I've not seen this mentioned here so I thought it may be of interest. Hopefully it may become a regular flow and lead to a rejuvenation of the port since the loss of all coal traffic. There used to be four lines between Ryhope Grange Junction and Hendon Junction, now just one.

Port of Sunderland has completed its first loading of a commercial cargo train in two decades, following a multi-million pound infrastructure upgrade.

This project is also planned to be running by 2024 with the possibility of inward flows of scrap tyres and outward hydrocarbons.

The Norwegian startup Wastefront AS is investing in the UK with the construction of what is described as the UK’s greenest waste tire recycling plant at the Port of Sunderland.

Just a few days after his appointment as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, Vianney Valès spoke to ELN about the company’s plans for its first waste tire-to hydrocarbon plant in the port.
