Flashing blue LEDs "below the solebar" on 158s and 166s

Does anyone know what these are for...? I've now seen them on both Great Western Railway 166s and a Transport for Wales 158, possibly GWR 158s too.

They're status indicator lights for the auxiliary heater. If they're flashing it is indicating an error code.

I've swear I've seen them on 156's as well, sprinters predate the invention of the blue LED so they must be some sort of retrofit.
