I arrived at Euston about 14.00 on Monday and walked to St Pancras in warm and dry weather. Thameslink running very punctually and arrived in Greenwich before 15.00. Later on, sitting on a bench by the river, saw black clouds and heard rumbling thunder but no rain to speak of. It was a shock to see the news that evening.

Not sure why you think that, they have been running into Euston all day.

The extended disruption to yesterday was caused by the flooding in Primrose Hill tunnel. This is the trouble when you have your current collection system on the floor.

Third rail is only in ONE of the three parallel Primrose Hill tunnels, all three flooded at the country end.

So the massive disruption on main line, non third rail services, cannot be laid at the door at the usually very trouble free third rail system.

Two people on the forum use every opportunity to have a pop at third rail.
It is not perfect but it is reliable & as experts here have said was very quick & cheap to install between Stratford & North Woolwich for example.

Four parallel tunnels. Two with OLE, two with third rail. Those with OLE reopened relatively quickly, as soon as the water was below the top of the rails. Those with conductor rail were reopened 3 1/2 days later, only when the tunnels had been completely drained, the conductor rail system checked, repaired and proved. I’m afraid the delay can be laid entirely at the door of the conductor rail system.
