VFM Railfreight Service Launch - Midlands to Scottish Central belt and return

Victa Railfreight in Partnership with FM Rail is launching a Rail Freight service between Birmingham (Hams Hall) and Glasgow (Mossend) for unitised cargo on Wednesday 1st November 2006.

In order to ensure service quality, the operation will be phased in, operating three days per week initially, with the aim of a five-day per week service at the start of 2007 to coincide with an extension to London (North Thameside). Additional terminal locations may be added to the schedule according to customer demand.

Initially the trains can convey most unitised cargo in ISO Containers or Swap Bodies up to 9’6” high and certain other traffics by prior arrangement.

Dedicated Customer Service facilities have been set up and bookings for the first trains are open.

Please contact one of the launch team on 0845 873 8100 to receive further updated information and details of booking arrangements.

Interesting development - where could the North Thameside terminal be and are they using Class 47's on the new service?

Anyone know how this serving is doing. There is now some car trafic using it from Long Marston in the ex FGW Motorail vans but in the rail magazines I get the impression the service is presently a trial - so whats the chance it will become permanent?

As far as i know its been running a few times a week? Hopeully it will be a success. New cars north and off-lease cars south on the Long Marston portion. Few flats aswell - maybe this is still in trial phase?

Apparently Invicta are quite keen on some shiny electrics for the new year. Might tie in with the "North Thameside" expansion - Ripple Lane??

There is a couple of paragraphs and a pic in this weeks Rail...apparently it's Britains fastest freight service. It is only scheduled to run (twice weekly) until mid December.
