Boston 1 Hartlepool 2. Played well again, full time clubs ability and finance showing again, being able to change the game from the bench. Still out the relegation zone!

Northern Premier League...Premier Division

Hyde United 0 ... Leek Town 0

The Tuesday night match finished goal-less, which was an improvement for both teams who both lost 4-0 at the weekend. Hyde now in 5th place.

Do not give much hope for Hyde who are away to a higher league opposition at Southport FC at the weekend in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round.

Perhaps I've been living under a rock, but I've never heard of the UEFA Nations League until I came accross England vs. Finland on ITV last night. Sounds like it should be important but is it really?!!! Is it just another way of exhausting players to enrich UEFA?

It's been going for 6 years.

It's a way to reduce the amount of friendlies (and inversely increase the amount of competitive games), and the structure of it means that smaller countries play each other more often meaning a higher chance of playing in worthwhile games rather than getting pasted 10-0 by England or Germany every time.

San Marino won their first match in over 20 years last week, playing against Liechtenstein in the Nations League.

I think it's a great idea personally.

There is also the carrot of Euro/World Cup qualification. Teams that have performed well in Nations League but haven't qualified for the next major tournament through the qualifiers group stage get a second chance in the playoffs. This was the route Scotland took to get into Euro 2020 for example.

6 years? Blimey! I've been aware of it but have little idea of how it works but there seems to be some link to Euros or World Cup qualification.

The other thing that's puzzled me this week is what the heck the England Elite League squad is (after Luton had a player selected for it). Today I found out it's just a fancy name for England under-20s!

FC Halifax Town 3-1 Eastleigh

Best performance of the season so far

First time we’ve scored two first half goals since Eastleigh at home last season

First time we’ve scored three in a match since Eastleigh away last season

Can we play you every week?

FA Cup...2nd Qualifying Round

Southport 2 ... Hyde United 1

Southport are a league above Hyde and had home advantage, so all in all an expected result, but with a closer scoreline than I had anticipated.

Blyth Spartans AFC 0 ... Bury 3

Definitely one of today's FA Cup shock results as Blyth are in the Northern Premier League, Premier Division, with home advantage against a team from the North West Counties Football League, Premier Division.

I shouldn’t complain but my lot did a smash & grab at Bournemouth who really must wonder how they didn’t get a point let alone three.

16 yellow cards in a game that didn’t have a single bad foul in it. Madness

Everton are bottom but they won’t go down due to the laws of nature meaning there legally have to be three worse teams than them by May. Wonder who it will be.

I saw their new stadium, while leaving on a ferry to the Isle of Man, on Thursday and I did think it would be hilarious if of all the years for them to go down, it's right before their stadium opens in time for next season.

Well... Southampton definitely in my opinion

This is definitely Everton's year. There's only so many times clubs can circle the bowl before being flushed. It's happened to Villa, West Ham, and Newcastle in the PL in recent memory. My team Birmingham finally wen't down from the Championship after multiple last day escapes in previous seasons. We're all the better for it IMO.

We made hard work of it but got the job done. What a lovely club west didsbury and chorlton are. Welcoming, friendly, fun, good club house, lovely area, diverse demographic and lots of dogs.

Blyth are an absolute bin fire at the moment. Questions ( charitbaly) about the new owner, lack of investment, revolving mangerial office door and awful rsults ths far. I am not surprised they were turned over.

I would take Bury in the next round. Obviously we will draw coined up celebrity super club Macclesfield.

Hartlepooh. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy ( apols. Mr O B Kenobi) The owner of Poohls is the guy who nearly killed us. awful man.

I saw that former Darlo forward Jacob Hazel scored in this game. I hope you stay up. I dislike Boston and the journey there and i have never seen us win there:)

I would put money on Everton to stay up, to be honest. Every year you can rely on three other clubs to conspire to be worse than Everton.

In the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round, Macclesfield from the Northern Premier League, Premier Division beat South Shields from Darlo's higher placed league 5-0!!! Are South Shields still a coined-up club?

Makes Hyde United's 1-1 draw recently on Macclesfield's home turf quite a good result.

Hmmm. I wouldn't. Fully expect the Toffees to be playing Championship level football at their shiny new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium next season.

Sunday 18th May 2025 (Everton FC at home agsinst Southampton) will be goodbye to Goodison Park and goodbye (for an indefinite period) to the Premier League.

yes but the level of coin the owner is prepared to invest waste has gone down quite a bit - he is looking to sell. I believe he was diagnosed with cancer and while he is on the mend i suspect it came as a sign that there are better things in life. They are still full time though.

that is a really good result. Macc are going for it. They expected promotion last season so demand it this season.

Macclesfield from the Northern Premier League, Premier Division beat South Shields from Darlo's higher placed league 5-0!!!
that's why i want to avoid them! Shields are a good side and they got a pumping.

Macclesfield are full time, managed by Robbie Savage (!) get big crowds and get a lot of media interest. However, full time in the glue league is insane. It is like setting up a taxi company and getting Logan Sergeant/Lance Stroll to drive your battered Octavia fleet for you.

He is certainly playing well. An absolute menace of a man! It's ok, I wouldn't be fussed about visiting your place again! We don't do well in the North East!

Boston 1 Aldershot 1. The first competitive fixture between the two. Another game we should have won, still above the relegation zone. Another one ticked off!

Latest quote by Stoke City boss Steven Schumacher:

’We want to compete with those teams in the top half of the table’

Considering Stoke are presently midway in the bottom half of the table (17th out of 24) I’d begin with setting their sights a bit lower.
You’ll miss him now he’s been sacked, won’t you?

West Didsbury fans are great craic, even gracious in defeat and it's always nice to see them when they come here.

Bury fans weren't too bad either when they came last week. FC Isle of Man conceding a 95th minute equaliser against them was pretty gutting though. It's always better when the visiting teams lose.

Just seen it.
Stoke have had six managers in six years so there’ll be another along shortly.

When Stoke ‘poached’ Schumacher from Plymouth Argyle, Stoke chairman John Coates described Schumacher as "one of the most exciting young coaches in the country". That went well.

We don’t want excitement, we want someone who can manage.

I just hope Stoke don’t revisit Plymouth and poach Wayne Rooney :frown:

Mr Schumacher said, according to the BBC report on Saturdays' defeat;

We spoke about it as an opportunity to come here and get a win

Presumably thinking 'it's just little Oxford we're playing, an easy win for us'. Somewhat arrogant and, as it transpired, wholly inaccurate.
