Vanarama National League North - The Mighty Magpies...played 7, won 7 <:D. If it wasn't for Nuneton, FC Untied of Manc would be rock bottom!!
Gate;1547.

Beginning to wonder if Victory park is up to Conference standards. Long season ahead though...

Moneyfields 0...Winchester City 2 (Barron 32, Bailey 90+4)

Another great result for Winchester, who go joint top with Yate on maximum points. Jamie Barron opened the scoring with a long-range effort before Ollie Bailey scored from a narrow angle in stoppage time. Moneyfields never really threatened, and Winchester could have had more, being denied repeatedly by the opposition goalkeeper and a goal-line clearance.

Other Results:

Bideford 1...Barnstaple Town 0

Blackfield & Langley 1...AFC Totton 1

Bristol Manor Farm 3...Slimbridge 0

Cinderford Town 0...Evesham United 1

Highworth Town 0...Cirencester Town 3

Mangotsfield United 1...Yate Town 3

Melksham Town 1...Larkhall Athletic 1

Street 2...Paulton Rovers 2

Thatcham Town 6 (SIX)...Fleet Town 0

Manchester United falling apart?

Mourinho after their 0-3 defeat to Spurs?

https://twitter.com/kylemartino/status/1034191578825408512

Or is he just trying to take the pressure off his players??
I'm not one for watching premier League football, but I watched the second half and was very glad I did! To be fair, man U weren't that bad, created chances, but as the commentator alluded to they have a soft underbelly (midfield). I heard Spurs had a nailed-on pen in the first half not given?

Yes, it was a penalty in my opinion.

It was an interesting game, played at a high tempo, so good for the neutral (and Spurs fans). Some good finishing too.

Things like that help keep my team's tribulations in perspective I guess...

Huddersfield Town 0 - 0 Cardiff City
The first "real" game of the season and what many had billed as the first "six-pointer" began with drama after a collision between Cardiff's Mendez-Laing and Town keeper Ben Hamer (who was probably lucky to keep his place after gifting City 3 goals last week) resulted in both going off injured. It felt and looked like a Championship game with no big names on either side. Both sides lacking any real bite up front meant a pretty uneventful first hour other than the injury, but Warnock has his side well-versed in the darker side of the game, and Harry Arter managed to provoke a silly reaction from Jonny Hogg resulting in the latter being sent for an early bath. From then on it was a show of desperate defending but our unwillingness to gamble and get men forward is a worry. We're playing like rabbits in headlights at the moment and seem scared to get more than two players in the opposition box at any time.

Our time in the top flight has been an adventure but I fear it'll be coming to an end next May unless we can shake the fear that seems to be gripping the squad.

As a Cardiff fan, the only thing I can really disagree on there is the red card. Hogg was holding Arter whilst the corner was taken, so you could easily argue it should have actually been a penalty. When you add that together with Hogg's reaction, it is pretty clear that he was the aggressor. Of course, all that is from seeing the replays. At the time, where I was in the stand, we didn't even see the incident even though it was right in front of us as we were following where the ball went. But certainly the game did lack any kind of real quality. We looked like we should have scored after the red card, but you expect that playing against 10 men and I'm really disappointed we didn't turn in a chance.

Its been said by a lot of people, but our issue really will be the lack of goals this season. The positive thing I guess is that we looked better this week than the week before against Newcastle, and that looked better than the week before it at Bournemouth. But we now have a nice run of Arsenal at home, Chelsea away and Man City at home which should be fun!

Harry Arter has been a thorn in our side for years. He's a crafty player known for his exploits at provoking opposition players into a reaction, and it's not unknown for him to give a bit out as well... nevertheless, it's up to the opposition players to resist the temptation to react to that: if you react you're giving the referee a decision to make. I don't disagree that the sending off was deserved.

I wouldn't worry too much about those upcoming three games... it won't be those ones that decide your fate, and you may be able to pull off a shock by nicking a point or even all three. Last season we were mostly poor against the big boys, but we did beat Newton Heath at home, drew vital away games at Stamford Bridge and the Emptyhad, and were unlucky not to get something at home against Moneybags City after going ahead. There's no pressure on you playing those sides this early in the season.

Oh dear, poor Juninho.

What a way to end your debut. Hope the poor kid picks himself up from it.

Not seen it yet, so no spoilers please! ;)

We need to get out of the rut we've found ourselves in, sooner rather than later!

Now that I have seen it, well... I'm not sure what to say, other than despite pre-season tours to both Germany and Austria (and a home victory over Lyon) the new signings don't seem to be well integrated into the team. Certainly compared to the promotion season a couple of years ago.

A team like ours needs to be greater than the sum of its parts, hopefully Wagner can get them all singing from the same hymn sheet soon!

Highland League

The Wednesday night fixtures saw the bottom three clubs, who had lost all their previous league games this season, all in action.

Two of the three were drawn against each other and Fort William and Strathspey Thistle fought out a 1-1 draw.

No such change of fortune for the third of those sides as Lossiemouth, even with home advantage, lost 0-8 to Buckie Thistle.

Can anyone confirm if Fort William have been given a points deduction penalty by the Highland League this season and if so, the reason for it.

The Sunday Times gave the result as Fort William 2 Formartine United 0. I was so shocked that I came online to check. It was indeed a misprint.

Great 2-1 win for Bradford at Hereford yesterday. Now 3rd in the table and punching way above our weight. Nobody expects it to last but its good to have 13 points in the bag before August is out.

We are all over the shop. Played 7, won 1 drawn 3 lost 3. We beat Brackley, drew with Bylth then went to Kiddie and got humped, lost heavily to Altrincham and came from behind to snatch a point at Ashton in a game we should have lost easily.

Defensively we are shambolic and the Altrincham game seemed to see some of the player give up. Could be a long season.

Darlington 0 v Alfreton 1 - ffs. Gave away a soft goal after 70 seconds. Lots of effort thereafter. No quality. No ideas. 5 games without a win. Haven't won a home game since March. Relegation form.

Everton 1 - 1 Huddersfield Town

Still without a win this season, but a performance that was much more representative of the "Terrier Spirit" today. Going in front thanks to a headed goal by Philip Billing, who is starting to bloom into the excellent midfield general that he's been threatening to be for years... only to be pegged back almost instantly by a snapshot that Jonas Lössl would normally have saved with his eyes closed. That was also Everton's only shot on target, and despite having more possession they were unable to force a winner, with Town looking the more likely to get a deciding goal. Still a bit toothless upfront, but we've rediscovered some confidence and a bit of a backbone. On to Palace now, in a couple of weeks.

Liverpool 2-1 Leicester City.

Liverpool continue their 100% start to the season, despite a poor error from new goalkeeper Alisson which ended Liverpool's run of clean sheets.

Was quite comical in a way. Hopefully won't see the same again.

Who are they playing for? Tiny islands or something?

Yes 2 for St Kitts & Nevis 1 for Granada in the CONCACAF Nations League Qualifiers - there are also postponements of away fixtures with Chester (Saturday the 13th of October) and Alfreton Town (Saturday the 17th of November).

Jason St Juste, formerly of Halifax Town & Bradford, and last heard of at Ossett Town before their amalgamation with Ossett Albion, also played for St Kitts & Nevis. But I cannot recall any of 'Satnav's many clubs asking for a postponement.

Other Bradford players to make international appearances while at the reformed club include Amjad Iqbal and Adnan Ahmed (Pakistan) and Derek O'Connor (Ireland U21s). Paddy Kenny also started his career at Bradford before moving on and becoming a full Ireland international. Indeed the club was apparently cheated out of a sell-on fee by the way Bury and Sheffield United structured his subsequent transfer.

Went to watch your lot at Goodison on Saturday (the police won't allow FCUM and Man City to play at home on the same day!) and was quite impressed with Town's spirit and organization. As you rightly say, Everton were clueless up front. Maybe things will improve when Richarlison returns.

Two of those three Bradford internationals (Ahmed and O'Connor) were products of the Huddersfield Town youth system. The only "homegrown" player to make a first team appearance this season so far has also represented his country at under-21 level: Phil Billing of Denmark. If his current good form continues he will be hoping for a senior call-up.

I find no logic whatsoever in this, as teams in the National League North and the Premiership are about as far removed as possible in both their ground capacity and number of supporters as you could hope to get.

Incidentally, FC United of Manchester lie at the bottom of their league whereas Manchester City are near to the top echelons of their league.

Alisson is a complete prat. People who cheered his knobhead chip against Brighton need a slap. Put the ball in the stands next time. You play in goal for a reason.

I totally agree with your last couple of sentences but it's not the way the game is anymore. Goalkeepers are expected to be as comfortable in possession as the most skilful of playmakers these days. I strongly disagree with this method of coaching as goalkeeping is a specialist position in itself which requires a lot of work to perfect without adding the extra workload of acting as an outfield player when your team is in possession. A goalkeeper is there to stop the ball going in the net, simple as that really.
