For those of us old enough to remember.....

If thirty years ago someone had told you it would be decades until Liverpool repeated the feat of winning the 1st Division / Premier League would an appointment at the "funny farm" have been in the offing ?

The death has been announced of Martin Peters, one of England's World Cup winning team of 1966, and a Hammer alongside Moore and Hurst. Sad to hear.

Always a true gentleman, RIP. Just like the Earth will lose all the men who have walked on the Moon, England will have lost all those that ever won the World Cup. Sobering, and I'm not even an England fan.

Should have mentioned he scored that 'other' goal in the final, of course, the second. As you say, Howard, always a true gentleman, and I'm by no means a West Ham fan.

York City 0 v Darlo 1.

Grear goal from Adam Campbell ( which I missed due to train problems) follqoed by a game of 2 halves that hsf it ended 5 - 5 might have been fair!

Darlo battered york in the first half. York battered Darlo in the second. We won. Somehow.

Apparently only our 3rd league win at bootham crescent since the war
(Might be the Boer War tbh) but I am sure I saw us win there in the freight rover ldv Van's windshield cup trophy once on a bitterly cold night

Basford United 1 ... Hyde United 4

A visit away to third-place Basford United was eagerly waited for as last season, Hyde registered their best win there, winning 8-3, despite Basford being much higher in the league table. This again showed form being stood on its head and Hyde scored at regular intervals, leading 4-0 at half time. The team talk in the Basford dressing room at half time must have motivated their players, as they showed far more of a competitive spirit in the second half, pulling a goal back. So two consecutive league away wins for Hyde at Basford with good scores in both matches. This match result sees Hyde in a comfortable eighth league position.

With Manchester City beating second-place Leicester City 3-1 at the Etihad, bringing the good run of Leicester to an end, in the late kick-off, this was an ideal result for Liverpool as it means they now currently stand ten points clear with a game in hand.

Almost, although I’d say a draw in that game would have been a better result for Liverpool in a way, as I still think City are the biggest threat, despite how good Leicester have been this season.

That was a tough game. I think Liverpool just wore them down eventually though.

It was mate, but it was nice to set another record of being the first English team to win the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup in the same year. :)

I see that bottom-of-the-table Watford with one win stuffed Man U today *snort*.

Darlington 2 v Spennymoor 1. A great win in a local game ( not a a derby for us) against side full of wind up merchants and todd warriors ( several of whom played for us previously) . They think they are the "pride of County Durham". Today they found out who was. "2-1 in your cup final, 2-1 in your cup final" etc

4 points off the play offs. 6 points so far in the Xmas programme. Decent! Blyth away next followed by Spennymoor away. Tough.

Blyth are managed by the self-described "top top manager" Lee Clark, so that ought to be an easy one!

Our inability to perform against the teams around us (and an £8m striker managing to miss from three yards out) cost us today, along with ongoing injuries meaning we fell to a sloppy 1-0 defeat to the Smoggies.

Genuine question for those from the area: why are people from Middlesbrough so insistent that people don't add an extra "o" to the name of their town, yet regularly refer to their football team as "Boro"? Pick one and stick to it!;)

How is it supposed to be said - Middles-bruff? Or Middles-burrow? Mind you, Brits can't even get a short one like Bury right. It's Burry, not Berry.

It should be Middles-bro. And woe-betide any non-Smoggie who says Middlesborough, even though they themselves sing it wrongly every week!

Hyde United 1 ... Stalybridge Celtic 2

This local Tameside derby at Ewen Fields attracted an attendance around the 900 mark and Stalybridge showed why they have the best away win record in the league by being 2-0 up at half-time. Hyde pulled a goal back ten minutes into the second half, but could not score again, with Stalybridge showing good defensive qualities when it counted. Stalybridge still remain well placed with 5th place in the league.

did they beat Huddersfield today? Oh, looks like they did...............................
They did, after we lost our only experienced midfielder (Jonny Hogg) after 22mins and didn't really get going until after the break... missing two gilt-edged chances in the second half didn't help either. At least one point dropped, but that's football.

Is that the same Lee Clark who managed Huddersfield and Kilmarnock in recent times?

Yep, though it's now 8 years since he left Huddersfield having failed twice in the play-offs despite being given a huge (for the 3rd division) transfer budget which he used a scatter-gun approach for.

He's also the most popular man on Wearside!

Liverpool have just given Leicester a lesson. Typical Rodgers side, fell apart when asked tough questions.

13 points clear.

Leicester haven't played well for a while. They've been looking tired and unable to play their usual pressing game for 5-6 games. Don't have the depth of squad to rotate.
