Hi All,

Just seen Network Rail's tweet reporting that a freight train has derailed near Aberdeen meaning no services are running between Stonehaven and Aberdeen. Anyone got any details on the train involved?

From WNXX...
6B32 1652 Aberdeen-Oxwellmains, 66610.
Doomed from the start with a number like that

1A88 19.28 EDB-INV via ABD has been cancelled. Other services starting/terminating at Dundee, although I'm not sure how 1E30 ADB-LDS can run, because the HST will be trapped in Aberdeen.

Anyone got more information on where this was?

I'm just a wee bit outside of Aberdeen.

started from Stonehaven on time.
D'oh...I was looking at the arrival time at Dundee of the incoming service from Kings Cross, and thought I was still looking at Aberdeen
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
The up Highland sleeper won't run from Aberdeen, because the stock is trapped. Buses will take passengers to Edinburgh to join there.

The down Highland sleeper will run only to Inverness and Fort William, with passengers for stations to Aberdeen being bussed from Perth.

Everything else from ScotRail seems to be running OK to/from Stonehaven, thanks to incoming units being able to head back out again.

The Breakdown crane planned to attend is getting in a bit of mileage recently.
It was sent down to the derailment in Kent last week.
Even though it was turned round short of destination as not required.

It's unbelievable that a breakdown train has to go all that way.

Does anybody know how many breakdown trains exist, It's ridiculous that a train has to be sent to Scotland.

Considering how often it happens id say it was appropriate to be honest. It can if neccesary be at derailment within 24 hours. reasonable for an occurence as rare as this.

You think 24 hours is reasonable ?

When breakdown cranes were placed at strategic points all around the country 3 or 4 hours wouldn't have been thought of as quick.

I'm not saying you need as many as you used to have.
Sending one from Warrington to Scotland seems ridiculous to me.
Doesn't Scotland have a breakdown gang ?

The crane was stopped at Mossend as a road crane was brought in to do the recovery instead.

As for how many Cranes I believe there are 4 available n the network.
Wigan, Knottingley and Bescot are the bases I understand.
Further detail on Breakdown cranes can be found at http://bdca.org.uk/index.html

Blimey you mean to say that if a breakdown crane is required in Penzance the nearest is Bescot ?

I find it hard to believe that neither the south east or west doesn't have a crane.

Looking on that site you're right NR has only 4 and one of them is broken.
