update
link to newspaper article

A freight train has derailed on track near to a Lincolnshire level crossing causing travel disruption for the rest of the day.

Seven or eight empty fuel wagons came off the track and are on the embankment near to the crossing at Langworth.

The incident was reported at 2.30pm on Tuesday, June 30.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue is at the scene assisting with the incident.

Both lanes of the railway are said to have been blocked and services are likely to be disrupted until the end of the day.

Hot rails?

I did joke at the weekend this week would see delays and speed restrictions imposed,
On a level crossing though so could have been a bogie running off for some distance before chucking the lot off on the deck of the LC or issue on the deck with alignment
Empty waggons so more inclined to flange climbing if a track defect or suspension issues on a bogie

The train was approaching Langworth on the Down line from Lincoln. There is a speed restriction 30/75 near to the Welton Oil Terminal, due to condition of track. My missus confirms that passing that location is noticeable.

For anyone that is interested the working was 6E54 10:39 Kingsbury - Humber Refinery (60054)

No Newark to Grimsby trains ard running now. Shame it's buses on the route, yesterday a 158 ran on the line. No mention of how long it'll take to fix it all.

It's buses or nothing! Both lines are blocked, so there's not a lot of choice in the matter.

Why would both not be blocked? The derailed vehicles may be blocking the other line and it is much safer for rescue and recovery staff to work under a T4 (if that's right) and working in a green zone.

I think perhaps he was referring to the press article description of the tracks as Lanes, rather than as Lines?

Passengers change at Worksop/Retford/Gainsborough for onward trains to Cleethorpes via Brigg.
Hmmm if only!

Brigg line might see some more freight in next day or two (if boxes are open).

The tank trains, when diverted, tend to run via Scunthorpe & Chesterfield rather than Brigg. Avoids running through a congested Sheffield & I believe there are weight restrictions on the line via Mansfield.

Could the heat be the cause with the metals expanding??
It felt like it was 30-Centigrade/Celsius yesterday.

I was highlighting poor journalism, railways have lines not lanes.

The stranded East Midlands 153 was pulled out this morning on the back of a Northern rail unit on its way to Scunthorpe.

Thought they would do that, no point it staying up here (unless it wanted a holiday as it had a sea view  )

BBC Look North tonight (Yorks & Lincs) showed footage of construction of a temporary access road by cutting away the verges of a bridle path and filling in a ditch.

Back in the day - BR would have just tipped the lot over into the field and cleared the line. These are , of course , privately owned wagons .....in the case of the standard BR wagon so many existed (and they cost very little) - it was a prudent policy. I recall many similar derailments in South Wales where this happened. Many of the wagons were in poor overall condition - so dropped springs etc happened and caused carnage. Loaded wagons (coal) were dealt with by the local community.

One gathers the loco and first 9 or so tanks reained on the line and the rest went pretty well everywhere.
