Freightliner 66 through Birchwood

Waiting for the bus home tonight, I heard the not uncommon announcement to tell people to stand clear of the platform edge as the next train wasn't stopping. I was amazed when a FL 66 stormed through! Why was this on Cheshire Lines and is this likely to become a future thing?

I assume the two are linked.

it was heading towards Manchester and wagons looked fully loaded although, as you say, its probably from MR engineering works.
