Not a lot!Wait, what's happening to the Class 70s?
I know that loadings on some services have been poor recently, but that's terrible!70005 in action today pulling out of Crewe with a southbound container.
Not a lot!
People were flapping about them all going into 'warm store' a week or so ago,
but since then, up to four locos have been working Freightliner services to and
from Southampton/Gateway/Felixstowe each day, so it seems that rumours of
their demise have been somewhat exaggerated...
MARK
I saw 70003 on the 4M45 on 10/8/19, so it looks like its still operationalPassed Midland Road again today and in the line there were 9 class 70s, one less than the last few times I have rode by. However 003 was on the Freightliner yard along with a 66. I'm not sure this was previously in the line but this is the first one I've seen at Stourton in the past year.
Are they still being stored because of 'long lead time spares'? It seems crazy that they're still in storage, a year after this thread was started! I hope GE are picking up the bill if it's a design issue.
They have a rather large new contract starting in just over a months time.Would depend if Freightliner are winning more freight contracts I would assume!
That sounds promising! Do you know what the new contract could be?They have a rather large new contract starting in just over a months time.
The very large Mendip quarries contract from DB. FL have already bought the Mendip Rail 59s in anticipation but are short traction for the jumbos unless they also manage to buy the 59/2s from DB as well as needing more traction in the SE for the half trains going south and east from Acton once some jumbos split there. That sounds promising! Do you know what the new contract could be?
