In the light of the "39 Steps" thread, there was a recent showing of this early James Bond film with Sean Connery. The mixture of trains used for the Orient Express were quite amazing!

Agreed - particularly the obviously British night time 'run pasts', with green Mk1's hauled by something like a Black 5...

Not sure the pristine digital restoration does it many favours at times - the 'Zagreb' and 'Beograd' station signs look fresh out of the scenery workshop at Pinewood...where's the grubbiness of the steam railway?

But that's nit-picking of what is one of the better 'classic' Bond movies (and is more-or-less a straight spy yarn, before they got overblown).

The real point about the train scenes was that the production budget was completely blown and filming in Turkey was becoming 'difficult' for various reasons.

Hence the use of stock footage (and also most of the chase scenes being filmed in Scotland rather than Yugoslavia and the Adriatic).
