From what I have heard in verbal conversations amongst Network Rail railway staff, it seems that this is included as part of the HS2 Phase 2b project, with an extra stop for future network extension.

Has anyone any hard and fast links to official publications that can give full details, including map diagrams, of what is involved.

At what depth is the proposed metro link station? It seems to be deeper than the current station by a whole level.

Basement 1 under the ground level HS2 concourse. The existing Metrolink station is ground level but in the under croft 2 stories below the current station concourse.

The front entrance of Piccadilly while on street level at the top of a hill is a couple of stories above the ground level of the side entrances.

So therefore the new HS2 Metrolink station is underground, which plays in to a future Piccadilly-Cornbrook tunnel too.

What the front of the station will be (whether the hill is still there) is something we will have to wait for the architects designs for a definitive answer for. Its been mooted to keep the bridge across the road as a high level pedestrian entrance but lower the street level demolishing Piccadilly Gateway and making the main station entrance the corner at the bottom of the current hill at the HS2 concourse So you would turn right and go up to the existing station concourse or carry on along the HS2 concourse and go up where the bridge over the bottom of the platforms/entrance to 13/14 concourse is. Meanwhile existing station side/undercroft entrance would remain a side entrance, you would travel through the undercroft retail area into the hs2 concourse then able to access the platforms from there. I think the corner escalator well where the clock is would likely be closed. Alternately if coming from Mayfield/East Manchester direction you could simply walk into the HS2 concourse from the opposite end.

Has any further information come to light in the four months since this posting was made?

We may have something when Integrated Rail Strategy is published at the end of the month.
