I've definitely seen and heard of bigger light engine moves than 5. So I suppose its possible for all those to go at once, unless there is a reason I'm unaware of.

5 is the maximum, over that, it needs authorisation, and will run with an 'X' headcode, and associated paperwork

What is the reason for the maximum limit? Something to do with braking capacity?
That I do not know, just in the Rules & Regs max 5, anything over has to be specially arranged and authorised.

It was a long time ago but the rules for hauling dead locos meant that a rider had to be provided on the second ( or rear ) loco and for a train of 5 that would mean crew on the hauling loco , then the third and fifth. If a six were added that would mean another rider.

So it might just be question of crew availablity. Sorry this message got split into two.

The maximum of five rule was because of the total weight being brought to bare on larger structures such as bridges, say five 130t locos together on a bridge of similar length. Route specific dispensations were allowed where there weren't any such structures. Don't really see this being a problem with the quite light class 90's though.
No 'riders' required on today's Railways, just one driver.

Does anyone know the Mk3s left at MNR now? Apparently they've bought some themselves.

Heritage or charter operators? Especially the latter, because these Mk3s all have retention toilets.
LSL have taken a few too. Chiltern have taken some as well to replace the Banbury set.

According to my notes I have the following ex AGA vehicles as still at the MNR:

11081
12021-12032-12097-12129

It should be noted that I don't have complete records of all movements from Crown Point to the MNR - in many instances I have a record of a vehicle leaving the MNR but not arriving there - so there are almost certainly more vehicles than those listed above still there.

12032 and 12097 are at Leicester I believe.

Thanks - do you know the date they went on and/or what took them?

My gradually expanding spreadsheet, which I hope will eventually detail the historical allocations / storage & scrap movements of every mk3 vehicle, has their most recent movement from Crown Point to MNR on 01-04-2020 in the hands of 37716.

11090, 11092, 11099, 12032, 12097 went over to Leicester on 13 April behind 47815. Not got the working unfortunately.

I understand the MNR plan is to take up ten mk3’s. This is with a view to creating separate mk1, 2 and 3 rakes to suit the different events they run.

Whether recent events will have an impact on those plans remains to be seen. Finances will be a major issue with no fare revenue coming in but hopefully they can still buy the GA vehicles. The opportunity to pick and chose from sich a big fleet won’t come up again.

Tomorrow's move to Newport Docks:

0842 Norwich C.Pt. T.&R.S.M.D to Newport Docks (Simsgroup)

Scheduled to be 5 DVTs (82102, 82103, 82105, 82152 & 82132) and 2 Mk3s (12062 & 12153).
interesting, according to railcam data, the 2 locos currently at crown point are ROGs 37611 and for some reason 88002, it'll be interesting to see if the 88 operates the move, as I can't think of another reason why it's there.
EDIT: according to railcam data, 88002 is at crown point to pick up 37059 because of flat batteries.

What happened to 37402 which went back to Norwich after the move to Long Marston yesterday?

It's on the move as 5Z38, just approaching Diss. DVTs in the consists appear to be correct, unsure if the two Mk3s are also included, but I assume so. 37716 in charge.
The two Mk3s are also showing in the consist on the system.

It does appear correct. Pic link. Please credit the photographer. Not my pic.

It's interesting to see all those DVTs off for scrap when there's still a few of the old Virgin West Coast ones sat at Long Marston (if they're still there that is)
Of the extant VT DVTs, 82101 & 82126 (ex-Pretendolino) are DRS-owned, and stored at MOD Longtown; 82138 & 82150 are Arriva-owned, and still (AIUI) at Long Marston. 82116, 82120, 82137, 82141 & 82148 were all scrapped there on site in the last year.
