I wondered if the Class 322s are really gonna be cascaded from Northern to Greater Anglia because somebody doesn't really trust this.
Btw I realised the Class 321/9s, 322s and perhaps the 379s being displaced from Stansted Express due to Class 745s are gonna allow the Class 360s to be cascaded to EMR Electrics?

It is happening, at least three of the 322s have transferred to Greater Anglia up to now.

I’m a GA driver and have 322’s on my traction card so there is a fair chance they will be used.

379's won't replace 360s on on anything, they'll be replacing 317's on West Anglia

I seen plenty of 321s and few 360s at GA. Yesterday i seen 321 operate on 12:18 to Clacton on sea Mon to Fri. I know 360s normally 12:18 to Clacton on sea before. What happens to 360s?

I am saying about the 379s displaced from Stansted Express,

Yes, you are. I'm not quite sure what you didn't understand about my post - and what 379's did you think I was talking about?

The only time a 379 worked on the GE in passenger service was for the battery EMU trial. As a short-term measure I can't see GA getting them cleared for Great Eastern services pending the 720s being introduced.

They are far more likely to find use on the West Anglia and gradually replace the increasingly geritatic 317s - a route they are already fully cleared for - before the 720s enter service and the 745/1s settle down on the Stansted Express.

Ex Northern class 321/9 and 322s to cover class 360s on GE?

There aren’t enough to cover all of the 360’s but some of the 321’s should also become available once the 720’s start running in service on the Southend Branch.

The 360’s could be around a little linger due to the delay in launching the Corby Electric services.

Or, the delay to the Corby electric service is because of the 360s not being released by GA, depending on your perspective?

The Corby delay is nothing to do with the 360’s. The works haven’t been completed in time for a December start.

Also being released one by one for 110mph mods before returning to GA as not yet required on the MML.

Corby energisation was due today.

Any further news on the Class 360 withdrawal date on GA?

Now the 360s can reach 110mph is there any chance of a driver 'acceidentally' doing 110mph by notching the power too far, or is it locked out until they arrive on the MML?

Nope, still limited to 100 as before. Assume that’s an easy software update once they transfer.

No release date has been mentioned.

I remembered new class 360s in FGE era and replace the slam door class 312s in 2003 also i remembered class 321s worked all day London to clacton, Ipswich off peak before new class 360s introduced and replaced the slam door class 312s.

So why class 360s never used Colchester to Walton on the Naze via Colchester in place of slam door class 312 and also why class 360s tookover the 321s duties for London to Clacton, Ipswich mainline off peak in 2003 - 2004?

Quite simply there were fewer 360s than the 312s they replaced. So being a new fleet with fully accessible toilets, it obviously made sense to diagram them to the main line services.

By the 2000's the Class 312s were only used for Ipswich/Clacton/Walton/Southminster to London peak trains and daily on the Walton - Colchester and Harwich - Manningtree services. They weren't used at all on the main line off peak as their top speed of 95mph was a hindrance to running faster services.

So it's better to think of the arrival of the 360s more in terms of a stock cascade, they released 321s to take up 312 duties.

I think we're probably very close to a 720 launch run. Likely to be a "soft launch" in keeping with the current downbeat times and their late entry into service.

Several of the Class 317/6s have been withdrawn, according to wikipedia. I'm assuming that those are units replaced by Class 379s, freed up from StaEx by the Class 745s.

Bare in mind as well the 360s need to be heavily refurbished before being pressed into service with EMR - I can imagine they’ll start transferring within the next month or so once the remaining 321/9s and 322s enter service, then they’ll most likely be stored at Bedford Cauldwell once refurbishment is complete until the MML electrification testing is complete and driver training can begin.

The refurbishment will probably be like the 185 one, carpets and seating all ripped out, handlebars and vestibule panels all repsprayed. Hopefully they stick with the grammar seats albeit in proper 2+2 and stick to a high spec, high quality interior with wood accents as well.

EMR have already said the exact opposite, that they would enter service prior to refurbishment. This info is from the EMR 2020 timetable consultation, and I’m sure is also covered in the existing EMR 360s thread.

Yes I read that I think in MR magazine. Some or all will have to start unrefurbished.

To be fair the 360 interior is really not bad, the seats have been recovered in the last few years (i think), its not going be like when those 156s transferred to East Midlands trains in such a shambolic state they put signs up saying sorry!

What was so wrong with the 156s? They had been fully refurbed to PRM standards.
