Hi all, I have recently applied for a Rail Operator role with GBRf. I applied at the beginning of June, my status has gone from 'Application Submitted' to 'Under Review' a few weeks ago. I currently hold a valid PTS, TIC and Level 2 NVQ in Railway Engineering Track Maintenance and also have some on track work as a contractor (mainly Pway)

Does anyone have any idea in terms of turnaround times for GBRf applicants? GBRf really look like a good company to work for so I'm eager to learn more about how they operate.

Hi all, does anyone on the forum currently work as a Rail Operator for GBRf or could add some clarity of the process/duration for new applicants? It's been around 5 weeks since my initial application.

Hi,
Can't answer for GBRF specifically. However, railway recruitment is notoriously slow. It's pretty average to wait months from application to hearing anything. For example, people on my training course had been in the recruitment process for 18 months before starting the course.

Good luck.

Thank you ☺️ I'll keep you updated as to what's going on. Someday someone may be in the same position as me now and need a little clarity too, hopefully this thread may be of help.

I’ve been invited for an interview next Friday but not sure if I want it as I was thinking it’s a driver role but it’s actually a shunter role

Nevergiveup - How did the interview go? I have a Manager interview for a shunter role coming up and was wondering what kind of questions they asked?

Do you currently work in a safety critical role? If not I wouldn't dismiss a role like this out of hand too quickly!

Yes granted we want what we want but sometimes going for drivers jobs is about having as much ammo to throw at the application as possible.

Remember the numbers you'd be up against with a driver recruitment campaign.....I guarantee a role like this on your CV will do you more good than harm. And I could be wrong but I'm sure that GBRF recently recruited trainee drivers from positions just like this.

Anyway I hope whatever you decided to do worked out for you.

Which location have you gone for? I'm a TM at GBRf having worked up from RO. No sooner had I qualified as an RO it wasn't a few months before I was on a driver's course. It can happen quickly sometimes, they like to promote to the trainee driving grade from within.

Would you recommend GBRf?? Having no passengers and no 160 stops a day is an attractive proposition. But they never respond to my emails. Yes, I'm a Driver

It was for north London, I couldn’t make it to the interview.

I’m currently a bus driver and happy with the job, I wasn’t sure about starting as Rail operator as I’d prefer train driver role, thanks for the advice :)

Ah well I suppose if you're currently happy where you are that's a good thing and given your current role you've got safety critical experience anyway.

Good luck mate.

Hi everyone, I'm brand new here - looking for info about Rail Operator and Trainee Driver positions at GBRF. I've found the thread listing a load of driver bases but it isn't a complete list. Do they have any depots within an hour of Egham? (Reading to London give or take). Thanks in advance!

Hi there, does anyone know if GBRf take on shunters without rail experience? Heard and read very good things regarding them. Thanks.
