Grand Central announces suppliers of stock refurbishment
Grand Central announces that it has selected DML (power cars) and Marcroft Engineering/ESG (passenger vehicles) as the suppliers who will undertake the refurbishment work on the Grand Central high speed (125mph) rolling stock.
The power cars will be moved to DML at Plymouth for a comprehensive re-build including reliability modifications, whilst the trailer car work will be undertaken at Toton depot in Nottinghamshire and will include the conversion of all vehicles to HST specification.
Managing Director Ian Yeowart states:
We are naturally pleased that stock is now moving to works and are confident that our suppliers will deliver stock that is both reliable and comfortable for our passengers.
Initial stock for service will be formed of 6 passenger vehicles, which will include a first class vehicle, a restaurant/buffet car available to all passengers, and 4 standard class vehicles a total of 324 seats.
An additional 3 first class and 3 standard class passenger vehicles have been purchased to allow trains to be lengthened to meet future growth. The individual vehicle numbers are:
