The whole thing would go up the khyber without it, that place will handle all the major stadler servicing,

Consequence of converting almost all your 20m fleet to 24m and all your 23m fleet to 20m! May be good longer term move, but it's only going to complicate matters of the next few years as the new fleets come on line.

If they manage to come through the switchover with anything less than total chaos they will have done well.

Ilford will struggle to fit 10 cars in and the wheel lathe can only accommodate 4 car trains so a new maintenance depot is almost inevitable.

I suspect one of the reasons (at least initially) was that Siemens launched a legal challenge to the decision which they decided not to proceed with, that might have explained why there was relatively little information for a while after the announcement.

You would need to know what the siemens legal challenge was about In The first place So you know why they Called the Tender into question since they clearly through there Was something that was either not right or a bit Unfair in some way or they felt there was some Preference To other manufactuers such as those who built them in British Or those who Built Stock in Derby.

Honestly I don't know if that was the case but the clearly felt there was something that was not on a level playing field as they would not have been talking about legal action in the first place. However it is a bit strange that an manufactuer has won a tender without a specification already being nailed down.....

I suspect the only bit which isn't nailed down is the seating layout and maybe seat type, which probably isn't a big deal as far as the manufacturer is concerned, even on Northern the choice of seat type for the new Connect trains is supposedly going to be down to the choice of customer feedback.
