Hibernian were the first British team to participate in the European cup playing in the inaugural tournament of the 1955/56 season were they reached the semi finals.

What position in the Scottish league had they finished in the 1954/55 season?

The club that finished first in the 1954/5 Scottish League season was Aberdeen and Hibernian only finished in fifth position behind the two major Glasgow clubs and Hearts, were one of the invited clubs to play in the inaugural 1955/1956 European Cup competition, in which they progressed as far as the semi-final stage, losing to a French side (whose name I have forgotten), who in turn lost to the eventual competition winners, Real Madrid.

I was eleven years old when that final was played.

The French team were (Stade de) Reims, who were also European Cup finalists in season 1958-59. 'Les rouges et blancs' are now back plying their trade again in French Ligue 1, although they've not always enjoyed the most straightforward of trajectories since their heyday in the 1950s, having been relegated from the French top-flight (several times) and were placed into liquidation in 1992.

Correct.

The Scottish Football Association nominated Hibs as they were regarded as a consistently strong team. Also they had floodlights.

Your turn to kick off the next question.

Very good additional information

I knew the President of France is the co-Prince of Andorra but hadn't heard of the other individual so it was a bit of a guess.

What was, supposedly, unique about The Battle of Koom Valley?
It didn't take place?
