In the UK shipping forecast (Radio 4 version, not deepwater) there is one official sea area which is mentioned only in gale warnings and in one specific broadcast.

Which area is it? And for bonus points which broadcast mentions it?

The last broadcast of the day just before 1am mentions Trafalgar. Think it is also mentioned only when there are gales there on the ad hoc gale forecasts?

I've heard of the Matildas, they're the womens football team.
I'm guessing that the several of the others are also women's teams

Olyroos sounds like Olympic team possibly?

OK - try this:-

Why, when you see old photographs and pictures of actors on the stage, do they always appear to be leaning back slightly?

Its not something I have ever come across but has it something to do with the lenses of old cameras giving that appearance?

If they were on stage and the photographer / artist was in the audience, the natural perspective would give that effect.

Either that or the photographer never learned not to step back to get them all in....:roll:

No, sorry.
The answer is to do with the lighting on the stage.

Ahh is it to do with the shadows that were cast upon the actors that then gave the appearance they were leaning back.

Like the painting on football pitches to make it look like the adverts are standing up when in fact they are not

You're both very close, but it wasn't to avoid being dazzled. In fact, I'm not sure they had electrically-powered footlights at this early stage.
So, not dazzled, but.....

And it was something to do with shadows, but it wasn't the shadows that gave the impression they were leaning backwards. They did actually lean.

Hope that makes sense! :D

Was it connected with the heat radiated from the early electric footlights at the front of the stage? Did they lean backwards to avoid the heat on their faces making a mess of their make-up? ()
